Righteo, so i've done a bit of searching around but cant seem to find... The bikes getting close to its 24,000km service... I've been trying to avoid going on any awesome rides through the hills for the past month or so since the snowy's to avoid putting excessive k's on her, as im broke until christmas is over and cant afford the service just yet... Was just wondering roughly how much of an economical fisting i should prepare myself for with the 24,000km service, as well as being up for some new chain and sprockets... I know its a pretty major service is all, and i cant see chain and sprockets being overly cheap...

Looks the same as the 12K, which I recently had done for about $600 including a new rear tyre...
Why not do the plugs, fluids and filters yourself to save a few bucks?

Why don't you do the whole service yourself, Im sure if you did you could save yourself close to 400 bucks. I realized it wasn't any cheaper to take your wheel off and take it to the shop yourself though. They don't charge you any different if they have to mnt. the wheel.

New chain and sprockets (front and rear) cost me around $450 recently, though I think that was for a very high quality X-Ring chain (I should have specified to them I would be happy with a cheapo). I also haven't had my bike serviced since 10,000km and it is currently purring along at 33,000km. I do my own oil changes and chain adjustments.
As long as you keep your oil fresh I dont think you need to treat your bike gently, subject to the condition of your chain of course....

It's gonna be interesting to see how much I can catch some of you up in the next 12 months - bought my 08 in February at about 9000Km, and it's just ticked over 18000Km this week.
Hoping to do enough riding that I'll be well into the 30's next Christmas, and then it might be time to go shopping...

It's not the QUANTITY of riding you do, its the QUALITY. Mind you, my quality of riding sucks (commuting), so you're probably ahead of me already ;)

When I get my VStrom though, it'll be a different story !!!

Yeah i thought it was going to hurt, but wasnt thinking it was that much lol. Ouch. I will be doing my own work once the warranty expires... She's just about to hit 24,000km's now, and it expires in July next year, so I've probably got ths service and the next one to get done professionaly... 24,000 is a pretty major service, so i think I'm better off getting it done by a mechanic anyway, that way i know everything is right to go. Then i can go back to hitting up the mountains again! I've just been commuting on it lately, and it's depressing me. Ive got a bit of work to do before she goes in though. I've got a LAMS on/off switch to install and some 2ndary valves to put back in. They told me that when they find bikes with modified engines, derestrctions and the sort, they record it on their invoices so my insurance and warranty will be void if something happens... Fun police. Thanks for the info though guys... I'll get to saving and make sure i bring lube with me when she goes in for the work early next year...

Oh, and btw human spud... Where's the fun in treating your bike gently! It's got a redline for a reason ;)

I agree, which is why I said you DONT need to treat it gently. God knows I dont, and I dont even get the bike serviced.

Who is the 'they' that said they record modifications on invoices which voids a warrant and insurance? I know someone inside the industry that told me some stories about the crap that everyone could care less about (including insurance companies) which was much more significant than de-restricting a LAMS bike. He thought it was odd I would be worried at all.

If this 'they' is your dealer, find another dealer as I think they could be bullshitting you.

Basically, if you are licensed to ride a full power bike then what's the problem legally in riding a full powered bike? I can see as an issue if you are still on your L's or P's but not if you have a full license.

Dashy- if you want to make her come alive.... talk to thrust company. tell them you want a 520 kit, for gsx650f, with a 14T front, and a 42T Rear, 116 length chain. if you're not worried about every stray half hp, go with 16T front, and 48T Rear, for longevity.

they're really top notch, and you won't pay out the nose.

http://thrustcompany.com/

The plugs and oil aren't a big deal either. just be patient. the iridiums are on Ebay for as cheap as you'll get raked over the coals for stock plugs from a dealer.
You've got all winter to tune it right, just get after it.

Shit, they're not bad on pricing at all... Only problem is, like 95.4% of the motorcycle accessory websited out there, they don't list our bike... Anyone ever changed sprockets by themselves? If it's not a hard job, I'll do it myself and save some money. i can't see final drive modifications effecting my warranty... Then again, with the amount of mods i've got on this thing already, i daresay my warranty is already void 0_o
