Little over 5,000 miles on the bike and have had absolutely no problems. About 2 miles from work yesterday, shortly after shifting into 4th gear, the bike starts sputtering and won't accelerate. Pulled in the clutch and tried to give it gas, let it out and it did the same thing. Pulled the clutch in again and coasted to a stop and the engine died. Tried to crank it and it would start but then died. Cranked it again and gave it slight gas so it wouldn't starve; got it going and it did it again only once again back up into 4th gear. Pulled in clutch, throttled it a bit, let out the clutch and drove on home about 10 more miles with no further problems. Anybody have any idea what happened and why it isn't doing it anymore? Now I'm afraid to take it too far from home for fear it'll strand me. Thanks muchly!

Hi Whitemax . Go to the top of this page to "control panel" ..then profile ,fill in your location ,so we know where you are . Has it been sitting for 3 months over a snowy winter ??? Yeah could be anything..if its still got warrenty take it back to the dealer.

I agree to take it to the dealer if it is still under warranty.
if the FI light (red) coming on when then happens?
There could be a problem with the crank position sensor or something that operates at the same capacity. There could be a problem with the fuel pump at that RPMs. I would check to see if the same thing happens at the same RPM but in a different gear. It could be possessed and needs a priest to do an exorcism.

remove the tank drain the fuel clean the tank refit the tank fill with new good quality fuel at right octane rating (DO NOT use ethanol blended stuff if possible as it attracts water and causes problems) ride on report if problem still exists
Sounds like water in the gas from my past experiences. Agree with draining the tank, and refilling it. Did you fill up at a station other than your normal one? That would be the cheap fix which is better than the dealer if it is out of warranty.

I had just filled up to full the previous evening. Have ridden it with absolutely no problems since. Possible I had a vapor lock? I don't think taking it to the dealer is going to do much if they can't duplicate it. No, the F1 light did not come on.
