My wife spent two years living in Goodna near Ipswich when she was
young.
She has many fond memories of her time there.
Any of the Australians on the forum familiar with that area?

Sorry DB, I live about 1000Km or so south of Ipswich. Your wife, having lived in Oz for a while must be a very nice person - as must you for marrying her !!

Papa r,
Thank you, she is very sweet.
Her stories make me wish I could afford to visit
Australia.
The idea of so much open country appeals to me a bunch.
It does seem to be a place filled with good folks though.
Hope to find out one day.
Interestingly, My wife did say that the weather in Goodna was a lot like Florida temperature wise.
I wonder if it is true or if her memory is fading with age (don't tell her I said that ).

Her memory isn't fading on that one. The weather would be similar. It's more of a warmer / semi-tropical climate in that part of Oz.
I am familiar with Ipswich, but live a long way away.
I live (just googled it) 1732km away. It would take me about 20hrs non-stop to get there on the bike. You're right about the open country. Australia is one big place.
If you're ever on the financial side of things, definatley come for a visit. Any and just about every Australian would make you feel welcome.

BikerBoy,
I am not even there and I feel welcome...thanks.
Since I posted this, I have googled pictures of Oz.
(why do you call it Oz, by the way? ).
Very exotic and cool...Now I really want to go.

Yeah I know a little about Goodna. My brother lives near Rosewood and I'm from near Warwick and traveled through Ipswich often to go to Brisbane. Usually through Goodna.
But I left Qld 10 years ago and live in Victoria now. For work.
That SW Brisbane/Ipswich part has built up a fair bit since I lived up there.

Hi DB
I sent my late teenage years growing up in Goodna. My mother still lives there now. It can be great place to live but at the same time it has had its bad times as well.
Hope your wife enjoys the US. I went to New York for 2 weeks back in January and apart from the cold loved it, can't wait to get back there.

Jedlin,
My wife lived in Goodna in the mid 1970s when she was a kid,
She was there for about 2 years, but she is U.S. born.
Her dad was an etymologist( I hope I spelled that right) and was down under working with apiaries (hope I spelled that right also) Bee and honey farms.
She said the people she met in Australia made her and her family feel very welcome...like long lost relatives.
If you get a chance to return to the U.S., try Florida...cold weather is not a problem.

Hi, I live in Redbank Plains, which is only a couple of miles from Goodna. Your wife is right about the weather here, at present we are in winter, so this morning it was -1c and got up to 20c this afternoon
