Had a problem with the left side bar end the other day - it almost fell out !!
I have read about the Manic Salamander and checked out the modification links for bar ends, but I was wondering what else there was in the market that you guys could recommend.

Second that .
Dragonfly's are 1 pound each side, function before beauty I always say, Dragonfly's really help out in the real world on long all weekend rides, but yeah..they are not the most stylish bar-end around (there isn't anything you can do to make a V-Strom any uglier anyway)

Don't get sucked into buying some carbon fibre flash looking piece of crap. The bar ends are heavy in order to reduce handlebar vibrations. Lighter bar ends could result in buzzy handlebars. Manic Salamanders are extra heavy, which is a good thing.

I was worried about not being able to put the OEM bar ends back on with my new lighter Renthal bars and have the carbon bar ends .
No vibes ....goes to show just how smooth the bike is

Gsxfun,
Those dragonflys don't look too bad on your bike and like you said its 16oz of vibration deadening weight. The original ones are 12.75oz so yours are even better and worth it.
I think the manic bar ends is one of the best upgrades I did so far.

I had a similar experience on a bike I used to own. The thing is with vibrations is that they are different for every single bike. Even the same model bike, being ridden the same way by the same person will create different vibes. Something to do with the complex interactions of vibrations, some cancelling each other out, some adding to the amplitude of the vibration, and they are all unique to a particular bike. I think the manic Salamander website says a lot about the technical aspects of bike vibes.
But yeah, some are fussier than others (carpal tunnel will do that to you !) and what you describe as smooth might result in my hands going numb.
But when all is said and done, this is a really smooth bike, yet I continue to have vibe problems. I am thinking of getting some Manic Salamanders myself.

hp,
I know its pricey getting things shipped to oz from the states. Maybe try something on your own you could test with the existing ends removed and see if it makes any difference on your hands before buying the manics. I also put bb's in my bar with plastic bags stuffed into each end as stoppers for additional weight. This seemed to help and with manic bar ends, bb's and the grip puppies I am very satisfied with the results.
