Yeah I believe this is why. Why care about longevity of bulbs if you are a manufacturer? It's not something buyers use to make a decision on which bike to buy, and once out the door, it's the responsibility of the owner, not you. I hope the costs out the door go down in upcoming years to change that equation.

do you live in a high crime area? if you do, get one. if you don't, don't get one.

where I live you can leave the keys in it and nobody would take it.

The battery is so small you could carry a spare around if you have luggage space. I took mine out when temps dropped below 15f few weeks ago and was amazed how compact it is.
