Anyone here doing the Black Dog Ride? It's a ride to support awareness of depression and anxiety in men. People from all over the country heading for the red centre. Should be a great party out there. I'll be leaving from Canberra to meet up with the Sydney group on Sunday 5 September about noon if anyone is interested. Nothing like a 6,000km ride to have a bit of fun. :D

See http://www.blackdogride.com.au for more info.

Well, I'm still cranky that you didn't get to Canberra while you were here. It is the capital of Australia after all. Even though everyone probably told you Sydney was. :-)

Maybe I should meet you in Europe?

You know, when I was on my P plate and went on long rides the damn thing always seemed to just blow off for some reason. :-)

Yeah, that's the obvious joke and I did chuckle a bit. :D I was wondering exactly how much fun a thousand depressed riders out in the middle of nowhere could be? But I guess with Angry Anderson there it should be a riot.

On a more serious note, unfortunately there will be riders who can't make it due to the effects of depression. It can wring the life out of you and if you are taking anti-depressants, the side effects can easily prevent you from riding. I'm one of the lucky one's as I think I'll be just fine on this trip after having done quite a few trips over the last year and a half with friends.

So joke away for sure as life is short but keep in mind that depression is serious stuff and we need to watch after each other.

Cheers.

Well, i did the ride and it was incredible!

Just home today after 7,490kms!

I put up a site just for the ride if anyone is interested. Lots of photos and some videos there as well including a map of the route I took which was live during the trip using a SPOT II and the web site Spotwalla.

I did a lot of videos with two GoPro helmet cams that I took with me so I'll do some videos over the next month or so. A camera crew followed the ride and there will be a 30 minute documentary aired on Prime television resulting from that although I don't know when.

See:

http://dazza.id.au/rides

or the official site at:

http://blackdogride.com.au

The Sydney riders were organised by a a cool group called Riding4aCause

http://riding4acause.org

who are planning a ride across the USA next year to raise awareness of issues related to depression.

Cheers.
