Finally I went up to the mountains this weekend. The weather was so awesome. It was a great trip. It was my longest trip on a bike ever!! Blue ridge parkway is undoubtedly the best road in the eastern United States. Tourmaster Polar Tex gloves was very comfortable, Jafrum riding pants not only kept me warm in the cold morning but also very comfortable (only after removing the knee pads). It also reduced the butt numbness. Alaska sheepskin butt pad is pretty useless. Here are the pictures

Aw, that's just wonderful. Great pictures -- they bring back many good memories. That is the most beautiful road in America.
And some bad ones. I once rode the BRP in fog so dense that the only way I knew I was still on the road was to look DOWN at the yellow stripe going by my left boot! Knowing the drop-offs on either side (this was near Mt. Pisgah), and the fact that others were unable to see anything except the yellow line, too -- including the people coming TOWARD me -- made for the scariest ride of my life.
I would have pulled off the road and stopped, but the fog was so dense that I could not see anywhere to safely stop. The shoulder was NOT a safe option, in visibility of about 3 meters/yards.
We were planning to camp, but I was so rattled that we stopped at the Pisgah Inn and paid the big bucks for a room instead -- only to discover that they didn't sell alcohol at the restaurant! (This was in the early '90s -- I hope that situation has changed since then, but I doubt it. They are/were gummint-owned, which for some reason translated into no booze.)
The one time in my life I was so shaken that I really NEEDED a stiff drink, and there was none to be had...

Textile Motorcycle Pants Waterproof CE Armor Pants LP2821. They are not the best looking pants but cant beat for the price ($50). The pants are super comfortable (except for knee armors) and very warm down to 20F with the liner on.
