Yes, the six cylinder. I think BMW is missing the boat. The 4-cyl. K models are fast enough. The new 6-cyl. is supposed to get similar MPG to the 4-cyl models. Do we really need a heavier bike? Do we really need 6 cyl.? The twins are fast enough to get you in trouble. So why don't they put they engineering smarts to make the 4- cyl. that much more efficient? Why does the world need another upscale bike?

I just don't get it.

Hi BMW is hot on the tails of Suzuki Kawasaki Yamaha. BMW wants the riders who ARE buying BUSAs
GIXERs and OVER ONE liter motorcycles, Thats where the Money is.

That said a good motorcycle should have great handling good power yet at its roots, be easy to keep,
moneywise. I think our 650 does great in that aspect.

Also BMW IS flexing its mjuscles, and IMO some makes might be gone in a few years.

So a BMW 4-cyl K bike can't keep up with a Busa? (Serious question)
I guess my thread was more of a comment on human nature (the "need" to buy MC that approach 200 mph, the "need" to have the latest thing) than an economic question.

I think the new 1600 is a crossover between the R1200RT and the K1300GT. And being 300+kg its only competitor is the Honda Goldwing. Still I dont know where this bike would be better then a R1200RT/K1300GT

One other point i forgot the six cylinder in line is BMW history and one way to continue that is to have the flagship motorcycle with a in line six too.

BMW is going after the Honda Goldwing. They want to be the standard for luxury touring. 6 cylinders = smoother & more power.
