I consider myself kind of a gearhead, but of the automotive type. I have owned several gearhead cars in my life (TR-6, E-Type, Buick GS, Capri [european version, not the Mustang clone], Fiat Brava, 5 Audi's). My daily driver is a 2008 Corvette, and my fun car is a '68 Mustang convertible. I did (and still do) all of the less-than-major work on the cars myself.
The last motorcycle I owned prior to the GSXF was a Yamaha RD 350 in 1972.
The oil I used for the cars was usually Castrol. I am familiar with Penzoil, Valvoline, and the usual brands for cars. My problem is that I want to change to oil on my GSXF myself, and I can't find any familiar brand of motorcycle oil. Can anyone tell me which is the best brand of oil to use in the GSXF?

You'll get a million opinions if guys respond, But Mobil 1 is good, Amsoil is good, And I use Lucas high performance 10w-40 motorcycle oil. These are 3 great choices, but there are more good ones than this.

You can use Full Synthetic oil, the deal is it has to be "Motorcycle" Oil. The clutch plates need to stick together, and Car oil has friction modifiers that will prematurely wear out the clutch plates due to the modifiers. If the clutch plates were not in a constant oil bath, we could just use car oil like any piston engine. So, Motorcycle oil is required only because of the wet clutch plates. The transmission gears don't care what oil they are in, as long as they are bathed in it.

ok, there is always gonna be guys that use car oil. I have always used Motorcycle oil in all my motorcycles, and never had any trouble with slipping cluthes. Now, if your clutch does not slip, and you use car oil, then I guess you do what you got to do. Just like I always use premium gas in all my bikes, mowers, blowers and toys, and never had one of em start on worse than first try, to each his own is what I always say!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just changed my oil for the 2nd time (2,000 miles) and went with the Mobile 1 racing 4t synthetic. It is highly rated and I just couldn't justify paying like $13 for Spectro and some of those other fancy oils. $9 per quart for the Mobile.

I just did an oil change on mine this weekend. I have 2000 miles. I let the dealer do the 600 mile service and I did this one. I used Honda HP4S oil. It comes in 10W30 and it is fully synthetic. Several Suzuki dealers in my area are recommending it. It gets good reviews and Honda is now recommending it for all of their bikes, etc. I noticed that my shifts are smooth and quiet. I was a bit reluctant to use 10W30 as the owner's manual specifies 10W40, but it doesn't come in a 10W40. The dealer assures me that it is okay for year round use.

How much did you pay for the HP4S?
