So I was thinking about what to do with the fake air vents on my 650F. I liked the idea of using a pair of those LED lights others have done, but wanted something different. I was looking around at some other Suzuki bikes, saw pictures of an older Hyabusa, and was intrigued with the turns signals mounted in the fairing of the bike. Ended up buying a pair for little enough on eBay that I wouldn't mind seeing what I could do with them. These are the pair of signals I bought for around $25.
`
Turned out they were no where close to a fit. Way too big and completely wrong shape and contours. Seeing as there was nothing to loose, I decided to see if I could cut them down to the size and shape of the openings on our bike. Using an angle grinder, I cut off the rear housing and slowly ground away the lense material till I ended up with some custom lenses that fit the openings. I then slit open some vacuum hose and rimmed the lenses prior to glueing them in place with some clear RTV sealant.
Next step was to worm with the vent housings on the 650F to create some bulb housings. I lined the interior of the housings with aluminum foil, cementing the foil in place to create a reflective surface. Cut holes and installed some generic bulb sockets obtained at a auto parts store, and installed 18W bulbs in each housing. I then wired them up with relays, using power from the existing side marker circuit, and used the turn signal voltage to switch the relays.
This is what I ended up with. I think it looks pretty good! Click on the thumbnails to see the videos.

Wow that actually turned out pretty good! Seems like a ton of work, but like you said you didn't really have much to lose and I'm sure it made for a pretty fun project. I gotta say as I was reading through your post I started envisioning a pretty rigged up project, but you pulled it off great. Really inventive to turn the whole thing into a bulb housing. It's too bad it wasn't easier to do though, seems like a pretty good use for those fake vents.
I haven't looked too close at everything but I'm still hoping to route some tubing to the airbox from the vents. If that idea fails I think I'll try to do something similar with the lights.

Hell yeah those look great!! I installed turn signals also but I just used the same flush mounts I have on the front sides of the bike. If only Suzuki would do that stock instead of the grotesque stock ones they use

No, those are aftermarket signals available from multiple sources, in multiple shell colors and several diffferent lense colors. I detailed this particular farkle in some posts in this topic. post36256.html?hilit=turn signals#p36256 The bulbs are not only visible from the front, but from the sides as well. I have some amber lenses, on order to replace the clear lenses on the stock rear signals, in order to complete the amber conversion.
