If 1 up in the front is equivalent to 3 in the rear, then 1 in the rear shouldn't make that much of a difference. As Kadett points out, 47/16 is 2.93 revolutions. For the more aggressive and finicky riders, this might be a concern. For a guy like me who logs a lot of highway riding, I don't think it will be.

If anyone on here thinks that this would be a drastic move with dire consequences, please let me know. :?

It's not going to be a bad mod per say - just a little longer than simply going to a 16t front alone. I think it will ride well for touring.

Going to the 16t front I didn't really notice any loss in acceleration... still has plenty to put a smile on my face. I'm serious... I could hardly tell. The gearing is smoother though, which is great in my opinion. Having said that, I'm not trying to pull wheelies everywhere... if I was such a rider I may have noticed, but then again if that's what I was after I probably would have bought a GSXR750 or 1000...

;)

The only reason I wouldn't go any further is that the 16t front pretty well healed my speedo completely... going to a 47 rear as well may induce some speedo error the other way (stock gearing reads high by around +/-7%, 16t front sprocket heals speedo perfectly, a 16/47 may make the speedo read low), which in my opinion is undesirable.

;)

Thanks, Eberbachl and Kadett. Much appreciated.

Got the bike back and I'm liking the 16/47T combination. The bike just seems a lot smoother in every gear. It also seems to have eliminated the buzz in the windscreen.

Happy riding!
