After 19000km travelled on the gsx650f i've had enough of the uncomfortable seat, so i made the seat more comfortable .
1st step / Reshaped the seat with angle grinder.
2nd step/ Layer the seat with 1.5 inches of foam all over and shape.
3rd step/ Re cover the seat with marine grade vinyl.
Total cost under $100.00 Aud.The seat is noticebly bigger.
Must say after a days riding bloody perfectly cozy.

Great job on the seat, it looks very comfortable and I think the marine grade vinyl will make a difference too. Making it wider was smart move. I was going to do something similar but lack a decent workshop so had someone do mine but for more $. Plus you have all that great warm weather down there, can ya send some of it up to the northern hemi so I can test my seat out?

Nice job ,looks comfy.
We have a guy that makes seats on our local forum and I'm going to go see him and see what he can do for comfort and ,might get a GSX650F logo put on it .

I say good on him for doing his own thing! And kudos for the self custom work. I might agree that I would do differently on my own bike, but to me that's hot. Rock on.

Sleddog, please post some details of your meeting with Metzi. If it's not too expensive I'd love to have a custom seat. Having another mate interested in their product might help you bargin for a lower price

Yeah I have one of those at http://www.oppenheim.ch/chde/index.htm. Great customer service but I think implanting a laser with my account number in my hip was a little over the top.
That's not the best looking seat I have ever seen, but you can't look at it when you are riding and I have learned the value of comfort many years ago, to the point that I shelled out about $650 for my Sargent. Glad you managed a DIY solution, but can it be reversed? I think the appearance may work against you when it comes time to trade in. But if it stops your arse from bleeding, it's a winner

Thanks for the thoughts there guys both positive and negative .
Actually the seat looks great on the bike it must be the photo's that does it injustice. Honest, it looks similar to the suzuki gsx750f model seat.
I made it so i can convert to back orginal by removing the additional foam and then use the orginal cover.
The difference is this i now can do a good 800km a day + and not have monkey butt, where as before my butt was sore as and i would have to stop for about 10 min break every 40 min after about 500km.Its not perfect i still get home sore but much much better.

my opinion: it was a job WELL done! the point of this bike is to be a sport TOURING bike. the seat is a big contributor! although coming from an autoCADD expert in training i would have to say the bulge in the seat does not go with the flow from the tank into the seat in the best possible way. but as oxbow says---->to each his own. (i love that quote by the way).
if this seat would be recovered by me? i would get tempurpedic foam then have a waterproof plastic bag put over it to prevent the foam from getting wet, then have the marine grade cover on it because then you wont have to worry about water getting seeped into the foam then when you sit on it it looks like your rear end leaked.

Who cares about looks as long as its more comfortable, 800km+ is very impressive. And if he happens to run across a koala hitching a ride it will just have to hold on a bit tighter. Ouch careful koaly, those claws are sharp!
btw: only thing I could see on the pic that was a bit distasteful was the 'blue' stuff to the left. How about a few sprays of black rustoleum can n you will be good to go.
-20 celsius expected here in next few days, argh i miss riding!
I'm really impressed that you would tackle a job like that and the finish looks very neat and well done. I mainly use my bike for commuting and the weekend run when I ride alone. When the wife goes along I use the BMW. I also find the numb bum syndrome after an hour or so on the GSX and have thought about importing an aftermarket seat but our money just doesn't stack up to much when converted so I'll stick with the stock. I hope you have many hours of comfy riding.
