I saw a Bandit with a fairing like ours, but it had 2 compartments inside the fairing either side of the handlebars. This would be very useful, and i would love to have some.

Is it possible to get anything like this that will fit on my bike, does anyone know?

sorry if this has been asked/answered before, i did have a good look but found nothing (i'm not good with forums)

See, now here was a question worth asking! I've pondered the same thing myself...
I've never seen storage compartments as "accessories" in stores, but you could get one or two from wrecking yards - old K-series BMWs should be a goldmine...
It then shouldn't be too much of a problem to cut the required holes out of the horizontal fairing bits (the grey parts under the bars...), but depending on how big/heavy they are, you might have to brace the plastic you cut. Does that make sense? It's very early...
The idea I had was for a compartment with a USB charger inside it, and big enough to hold my phone, GoPro, and a packet of smokes. What's yours?

The K9 Bandit comes with a 12V poweroutlet.
No mods required.

I keep my phone and wallet on me, in my jacket... If i go for a spill and end up down the bottom of a ravine, or if i go for a slide and cant get to my bike, i want that phone on me, as well as my licence and blood donor card thingy and all the rest... It would be handy to have a compartment where i can throw in say my winter jacket liner, or a pair of light rain throwover pants, or even my second untinted helmet visor though... How big are these compartments ye speak of?

I really missed the locking, waterproof pockets on my old Concours, when I switched to the GSX 650 F. I was, however reluctant to start carving up the plastic on my brand new bike, despite the big empty space underneath the foam backing. I found a small pocket camera case @ WallyWorld for $8.95 that holds my tire gauge, valve caps, extra fuses, a few earplugs, etc. & fastened it down on the left side with velcro & 2 small machine screws through the plastic. A quick spray of Scotchguard for water resistance & Bob's your uncle. It even has a blue panel on the fron to match the blue Zoozie! I'd add a picture if I could figure out how to do it!

Big enough to keep a phone, GoPro and packet of smokes in? There's only a few inches of fairing...
I had a FSGT when I was a RAAFie, who rode an ex-cop K-series - we gave him no end of shit about it but truth be told, I was always a little jealous of all the storage on that thing. But do you think I can find a pic of what I'm talking about? Of course not...

Ever since I purchased the bike I've been curious why all that space behind the fairing hasn't been utilized, I mean you could fit two nicely sized cubbies on each side pretty easily. On my old ATV (Honda Rincon) they made great use of the extra space behind the fenders with a big waterproof bin. You could fit a few water bottles and a Pelican case in there no problem, also good for keeping a spare jacket. It was a really simple design, had a lid with a foam 'gasket' and a little twist-lock pin to hold the lid in place. Once closed it was flush with the rest of the bodywork and looked great.

I'd imagine if you found the right type of storage bin it would rest along the inner edge of the fairing (where there's already foam), so any weight pulling down on the top piece of plastic would be transferred onto the fairing. I gave a little push test and the flat-black plastic (top) part of the fairing is a bit flimsy, but the fairings are quite secure. I think it could handle 10-15lbs (maybe 10kg for metric guys) of weight no problem.

It could be as simple as finding the right 'box', cutting a hole, and dropping it in place. I'm going to get on this asap and keep an eye out for something I could use. I'd be happy if I could just store an extra pair of gloves and maybe a baklava or caliper lock. On this bike anything is better than the underseat storage nook.

Of course! Everyone needs a place to store their pastries on a nice long ride...
I'd be real interested in what you turn up MDW - I suggested the K-series BMW for donor bins, but as far as I know those things never die; there won't be many in wrecking yards :D
