i crashed my 2008 gsx650f a couple years ago and just now getting around to fixing it up.. i did quite a number to the bike when i hit gravel and endoed in a ditch, bent the left front forks and the rear sub-frame.. engine seems to be fine starts up after a quick charge of the battery.. my question is im interested in rebuilding the bike but just trying to make it street legal, are there any other bike you know of that are compatible with it? maybe a different bike i could just bolt the engine into? ive done a little research and have read that the gsxf is basically a bandit with ferings does this mean the motors are compatible?

A lot of parts from the Suzuki Bandit are the same.
But I don't know if the frame is the same.

Check your local salvage sites for the right frame, or look on ebay

Frame of the Bandit 1250/650 is identical for the mounting points for the engine. I dont know if the steering tube is the same dimension for the 650/1250.
The forks of the Bandit 650 are identical to ours, the 1250 forks are different.
Rear Swing arm (I hope you mean the swing arm and not the rear frame where the body/seat is mounted to) is the same as the Bandit 650. I know because I replaced my broken rear swing arm for one from a Bandit 650.

So your best bet is to get all parts from a Bandit 650.

it is the rear frame where the seat and all that is that i bent up, im not proud of the accident i was young stupid and not street bike experienced, just trying to find a cheap way to get the bike back on the road. I recently moved to Tennessee and i cant find any salvage bikes of this kind... everyone rides gixxer 1000 or something of that nature if they aren't on a harley.

Well the problem is.... there is no rear frame. Its one welded piece of frame from front to back. So if the back is bend, out of shape, you need a new frame. Since you live in the USA the only options are a GSX650F Frame or Bandit 1250 Frame, since the Bandit 650 isn't sold in the USA.

I just cant confirm if the head/steering tube is the same on the Bandit 1250 frame as it is on the GSX650F/Bandit 650. dhula (member on this forum) is the only one who has both bikes. Maybe you can contact him via PM see he can confirm that its the same.

BTW there are 3 GSX650F frames on ebay

Bikes like the SV and the KTM Superduke have a aluminum twin spar/deltabox where the engine (because its a vtwin) sits between the right/left frame section. This isn't possible with a wide inline 4 cylinder engine. 3 cylinder (Triumph) and 4 cylinder engines usually hang beneath such a frame. Both kind of frames indeed have a seperate rear section thats bolted onto the engine frame.

Our frame is by design very old, it offers great rigidity but suffers from the enormous weight in comparison to the alu tube/delta frames.

This is a frame from the last model SV650 on the top you can cleary see the mounting point for the rear frame section.

The 2007+ bandit 650 (not available in the US, but was available in Canada in 2007) should be the same frame. As well the 2007+ Bandit 1250 should be the same as well. Any 2010+ GSX1250F should work as well.

Although the Bandit went through a complete overhaul in 2007, the older bandits (650, 600, 1200), MAY use the same frame (you will have to verify this). If they do, then the Katana 600, and 750 frame will likely fit as well. It should be MUCH easier finding one of these older bikes parted out.

I can say with almost 100% certainty that this is not the case. The old Bandit 650 from 2005-2007 was an air/oil cooled carburated engine. The Bandit 1200 was the big air/oil cooled carburated engine untill 2007. From 2007 unwards the 650 (our engine) and 1250 both had fuel injection.

The frame from the 2007 onwards Bandit 650/1250 is made from a slightly bigger diameter tubing resulting in a stiffer chassis and better handling, this is something I read a while back. From looks its the same but it's slightly different from the older 650/1200 chassis.

Good luck with your project. What i would like to see is some one put a 1250 motor in there 650. That would be fun.

Did you not have insurance on this bike to have it fixed being so new and all?

It can be done, there is only one slight issue. On the lower frame tubes the right side is a loose part which can be seperated from the from and there you put in the 650/1250cc engine. But the 1250 frame has an additional frame support on the lower tubes. The right sight can be bought because its a single part. But on the left side we are missing the mounting point for the engine support bracket.

Here you can clearly see the black triangular but the connects the lower tube with the crankcase of the engine (just left of the shifter)
