I did search for odometer and sprockets, found the speedometer stuff but no mention of the odometer readings specifically with the sprocket changes.
So my question, the stock speedometer is off by about 10%, does that mean the odometer is off my 10% too? If I switch out the sprockets to a 16/45 (ish) that should correct the speedo problem, but what will it do to the odometer readings? Anyone have a GPS system or has anyone checked it out before? Does the factory settings over estimate the mileage, underestimate it, or is it right by factory settings and changing the sprockets will mess it up?

Nope. The ODO meter is 100% correct. So by correcting your speedo your also changing your ODO (it will show less miles then you've actually traveled). I did a weekend trip to Germany with 4 guys. One guy had a Garmin Zumo 550 GPS and it had recorded either 20 km more/less then me on a total of 2300km!
But this still changes the ODO. The Speedo and ODO get their signal from the same source. Only the ODO uses the correct value for the distance while the Speedo has 5-10% difference programmed into it. If you want both ODO and Speedo to work there really is only one fesible option. Install a Bicycle Computer to use for either the ODO or Speedo.
Hey guys, just changed out my 15T for a 16T front sprocket, ran down the road real quick and the speedo is still 1 MPH fast, GPS says 70 speedo says 71, 75 is 76, ect, ect, so I sure can live with that, I am headed out day after tomorrow to Deal's Gap for 4 days, 1300 mile round trip, plus riding in the area, so I will be able to check on the odometer calibration with the GPS miles traveled , looking forward to seeing how the GSX does in the mountains, will bw running with my son who has a bad ass ZX10R set up for nothing but canyon carving, hope I don't run off and leave him to far behind ??? well catch yas later,, DaveG

I do have to say, where is all the fuss coming from that the Speedo has to be 100% correct. Be glad its positive so you dont have to watch your speedo all the time thinking your speeding and risk getting a ticket/fined. In Holland the legal max speed is 120kph. With the correction factor LEO's use and the speedo difference I can speed up to 130-135kph without worrying.
No offense Daveg01 but I do have to laugh when I read people getting there speedo to match the GPS. Stop staring at the Speedo then and look at the GPS for the correct speed, problem solved! Because now you have a correct speedo and incorrect ODO. But in this case the incorrect ODO is a good thing since it shows less mileage
Little up date on the Deals Gap trip, as for the odometer verses the the GPS distance, yes the odometer showed right at 8% less miles than the GPS said traveled, and as for being right on with the speedo, 1 MPH can be the difference between a 100 dollar ticket and a 400 dollar ticket, at least where I live, and that ain't no laughing matter, besides now my warrenty will last longer, hahahaha, later gang,, Daveg

You changed ONLY the front sprocket? And its now a 16 right? so the speedo is corrected with just that but the ODO is off by 8%, ouch. But I think I'm gonna put it on, bought the sprocket a couple of weeks ago, just haven't put it on yet.
