I took my fairing off to clean the bike and after 5 months its pretty clean under there I was suprised.

Anyways here's a small how to ,to help you and save you a few scratchs.
Image

First ,draw a picture of you bike on a piece on paper ..
So every time you take a bolt out you know where its from .
My dodgey drawing ,but not all the bolts are the same size ,so do it.

Step #1Image

First disconect the blinkers from under the fairing..see the little leaver push it up with your finger and pull it out.

Step #2
Then starting at the bottom ,you will see 2 black plastic pull and push clips.

Get flat head screw driver ,put it in side ways into the small slit and twist side to side SLOWLY and wiggle the pin out ,when you can get your fingers on it pull it out.
These are 2 at the front behind the wheel where the fairing joins together and one on the left fairing side at the bottom .

Step #3 Starting on the right side of the bike undo the hex screws starting from the bottom..You'll know which ones to take out ,its easy to tell.
Or see the dodgey drawing  ....don't worry about 9 and 10 ,there from the inside.

Step #4 once you got all the screws out ,the fairing is still cliped in..

With plastic pins that are on the fairing and go into the bikes frame.

Image

^^^^ see the pin ,its at the top left corner of the silver heat shield.

Image

And goes in here . .
Pull slowly out and it pops off ...pull it from the left hand side..

And watch out ..for this clip there are only 2 ..one each side ,don't loose it.
Image
-----------------

And then the tricky bit. :? .

See in the picture there is a 1 inch long ,flat looking hole at the top of the fairing ..the blinker wire is pointing to it. .
You got to lift the fairing a little to unhook it ,and then slide the fairing to the back..theres is a hook at the front on the fairing ,that keeps it in.
Its hard to see ,but its in the picture at the very top left. .
Image

And your done ..do the same the other side and put it back together the same way in reverse.. remember to hook your blinkers back up.

Image

Do all this slowly as the fairing scratch very easy ,I know.
But It was easy to take them off. :D

Hope this helps newbies out ,doing it for the first time . :D

Disclaimer ..do it at your own risk. :P

Sleddog,

Two quick questions,
Do I need to pull the gas tank to get to any of the fairing fasteners?
Is there a sane way to remove the oil filter
without pulling the fairing?

You don't need to pull off the tank to remove the fairings but the oil filter is very hard to get to without removing them.

It only takes 5 minutes to remove them and put them back on, no big deal. Just be careful not to scratch them.

Thanks for the post Sleddog. This is an obvious more than likley need to know one that helps us all out.

Its a pitty we can't get the "How To" forum link or 'Sticky', so posts like this don't get lost in the general pages.

Can anyone repost the photos for removing the fairing again? The links for the pics don't work. This is my first faired bike.
