Well I will be home soon from Afghanistan and my bike has been sitting for about 7 months. I was going to pull the spark plugs and put a little oil in the cylinders and new air filter. But other than the obvious fluids and tires what should I check. I pulled the battery before I left and put it in a plastic box off the ground. So I am hoping that the battery is still good. Im probably going to have to leave it on the trickle charger over night.

Did you prep it for storage as per the owner's manual?
The answers lie therein...

And welcome back mate.

If you didn't drain the tank I wouldn't recommend running 7 month old gas through the injectors. If you did leave it full I hope you put some fuel stabilizer in it but even then I'd probably drain it and put in fresh gas. I don't really think you need to pull the plugs. The time to put a little oil in is when you stored it. Doing it now will just foul the plugs. Check your tires for cracks/rot from sitting, and it it was left sitting on the tires then check for flat spots. Just give it a good looking over. And, as NK said look at the manual and whatever you didn't do then look at that closely. Did this many times will all my sea duty and deployments. Welcome back and thanks for your service. I miss active duty...and flying...

I didnt. I took the battery out did a full tune on it and put a full bottle of fuel saver in it. I couldn't get wheel stands for it before I left though. So I'm going to replace the front wheel. Backwheel is in good shape. Thank you.

Should I run some fluid though the brakes and clutch systems. I guess you are right about outing the oil in the cylinders. I put brand new plugs in the bike before I left.

On another note I can't wait to get out I think 9years of the marine corps is plenty for me.

The brakes should be fine, but it doesn't take that much to bleed them. If the fluid is clear then I'd leave them. Take a good look in your tank for rust.
And if I may, some fatherly advice before you get out. Have a plan and make sure you have a job waiting. I used the Navy for all of my degrees. I stayed in mostly because I kept flying (mostly at Miramar near you). You'll never find anything with the strong friendships and camaraderie you have noww in the USMC. Good luck with anythe direction you take. If you everever run into 1st Sgt Tom Cushing tell him I say hello
