 Post subject: Front Sprocket cover

Always clean/lube chain about every 600 miles. However I haven't cleaned front sprocket (have about 5200 miles on the bike). I tried to loosen the hex bolts holding the front sprocket cover and am afraid I will strip them since they are super tight. Not sure if factory uses thread lock on the bolts. Any way to safely loosen them or will this be a dealer problem to deal with. I'm sure the front sprocket is probably gunked up with old lube and I'd like to clean it if possible. Thanks for any suggestions.

There is threadlocker/loctite on them and it does require a bit of force to get them off, but as long as you use the correct size. By that I really mean the correct Metric size (4mm if I'm not mistaken) you dont have to worry about stripping the bolts. I too was worried about breaking something but it some point it just 'snaps' and turns loose.
