2500 -3000 rpm in 6th gear .....not sure if it will stall never tryed it ,I will go try it out ......
{10 minutes later}

OK tried it ....6th gear 2500rpm-3000rpm is 48 kph {29 mile and hour} and I could sit on it and it didn't have a surge ,as it didn't have any power. :?
The motor was lagging your could feel it was in the wrong gear.
But for a safety point of view ,riding around in 6th gear won't give you the quick response of getting out of the way of a on coming truck that lost control {for example} your a sitting duck...then pulling in clutch and changing gear to get some power ..OPPS to late your a pancake.

I've said it here before alot that ,I hardly ride over 7000rpm ..when telling people about the leaner restricted model ,and 5000rpm is its sweet spot of ME ,no one is staying get it up around the read line and racing around flogging it ,we are talking about , selecting a gear for the speed and the situation.

But talking about riding a bike in the wrong gear and no rpm or REVS at the ready is dangerous and not some thing a newbie rider should be taking on board ,when they read this and then go for a ride.

6th gear around town at 2500 to 3 k is nice and ok for the bike with no problems at all.

Why stop there? i am sure you could do it at 1500 rpm if you really tried. Give it a go.

It's an inline 4, 4K rpm is not high. But it's your bike, ride it like a tractor if you like.

Seriously, I am beginning to think some of these posts are deliberately trying to get a bite.

Hi,

I'm a bit in favour of Gray Rider. I think there is some bikes with a problem. I noticed surging on my bike, after it had done about 300km from new, between 3000 & 3500 rpm in 4th gear. This is about 50 to 55km/hr, which is the speed limit in town. Three times I have taken it back to the dealler and they say they can't find anything wrong, but offer excuses that chain has tight spots, running in the wrong gear and anything else that seems (to them) to be logical. Never the less it still happens. Honestly I don't think the dealer has the necessary tools to measure exhaust gases to see whether the bike is running correctly, nor the the analysis tools to check the ECU mappings. So I'm going to go to another dealer.
Suzuki NZ don't accepth that there is a problem with this model. And clearly Suzuki feel that the bikes can run at low rpms without issue because my manual advises the following shift points
Shifting up
1st to 2nd - 20km/hr (12 miles/hr)
2nd to 3rd - 30km/hr (19 miles/hr)
3rd - 4th - 40km/hr (25 miles/hr)
4th to 5th - 50km/hr (31 miles/hr)
5th - 6th - 60km/hr (37 miles/hr)
Shifting down
6th to 5th - 40km/hr (25 miles/hr)
5th to 4th - 30km/hr (19 miles/hr)

regards
Whiskey

I stayed out of this as it started to get a bit personal but i can tell you what the solution (in 99% of cases) is to the problems and how to go about doing it.
I can also tell you why this happens but am still working on a fix that leaves the GP indicator there but still allows the O2 sensor to do what it does. I suspect this fix will be complex and not for the faint of heart.

OT part: First please let me say few words about this forum. Since I became a member (rather a silent one, because I feel I don't have much to contibute, compared to much more experienced members) it has very high standard of communication, respect etc. I think most of you can't even imagine the "standards" on motorcycle forums here in Czech Rep. - there is a lack of experienced guys here and the youg ones are calling each other names just for saying yamaha is better than suzuki :) I would like to thank you all for being nice and helpfull all the time and at all circumstances. Please keep the forum this way ... calling different opinion, that I don't agree with, a bullshit only leads to undesirable ends ...

To the topic: it happens to me too, especially when I ride two up with my girlfriend and I try to ride as comfortably as I can. I really think this is a software error in the ECU - and as dhula says, it can certainly be eliminated but the price will be great (by "price" I mean endless manhours of fiddling with everything). As I understand the bike's electronics, there was a option for the designers of the bike: a) make the bike smoother - by counting "average" values from the throttle position sensor and by making the feedback interval larger (the interval where the ECU says: the rpms are too high, lets cut off the gas / the rpms are too low, lets give it the beans) - which would make the throttle response "delayed" as it is in some cars b) making the response more immediate or "crisp" - which they did c) making it all better by fitting higher quality components, faster computer, more detailed maps etc. - which was not possible as this bike is a budget one

Have you also noticed, that the surge is becomming more intense, when the engine is "hot" .. i mean when slowing down to cruising speed after riding very fast, in high rpms ?
