Like everybody else figured out, the Lo and High beams are adjusted way low from the factory. Anyway, The Hi beam was easy, just turn the knob by hand clockwise and she moved vertically up easy to where I want it.
Then the Lo beam vertical adjuster is a 8mm Hex head, and so I turned it
clockwise for raising up, and it just turns and turns and turns but the lamp does not move, same going down vertically, it does not move down when I turn it counterclockwise. Even after many turns of the hex head.
Is there some trick to adjusting it, or is it stripped out? I did not think you have to do anything but turn it clockwise with an 8mm socket and it should adjust up, right?
Help!!!!!!!!!!!!

Are you sure you're wrenching on the correct adjuster? I had the same thing happen to me and then realized I was turning the horizontal adjustment!

Well, I'm not sure. I had the light on when I was wrenching, and it did not seem to turn in any direction. But I'll try again later. It's kind of a screwball adjuster. I wish they made them all with the hand turn knob like the hi beam.
I probably got the wrong adjuster like you said.

Best thing to do is remove your gauge cluster to make sure and adjust from there. You will see another adjuster that looks exactly like the one you were using.

IsaaX,
You are the man!!!
I am an ignoramus................
Sure enough, I was adjusting the horizontal adjuster, and I got way up in there and found the adjuster for the vertical on the lo beam. Man, it is way up under there. Anyway , a cool trick is you don't have to take anything off to get to it. Just use an 8mm open end or box end wrench, and you can just feel it into place with your fingers, and "presto" you can turn easily clockwise and up goes the lo beam.

Thanks for telling me to find the correct adjuster, I would have not looked up further if you had not pointed out that I was on the wrong adjuster.

Thanky you very much, I am a happy gsx rider again!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am mad at myself again though, because today I went out for a short spin, and I was wearing a shirt with buttons down the front, and when I got back, I noticed a ton of little scratches on the gas tank where my shirt buttons were scraping around. I guess my fat gut was pushing the buttons into the tank when I was leaning forward too much.
Oh well, the headlamp is all good now!!!!!!!!!!!

No problem :) I did the exact same thing you did but didn't remember if the adjuster was up higher or not so it was easier for me to just tell you to take off your gauge cluster :)

Glad you got it worked out.

I think that it's H-3 and 9005, but I would check in the back of your owner's manual to be sure

in any case, they are readily available at parts stores

I replaced both my high and low beams with Sylvania Silver Stars and the light is much better

I put narva globes in mine ,its much brighter and make the road white ,not the yellow-brown on the originals.

Just a slight correction. It's H-7 for lowbeam and HB3 (or 9005) for the high beam bulbs.

Hi emsguy,
If I put in the sylvania silverstars, does it require any beefed up wiring?
Or do they not require any more juice to run the superwhite lights?

I thought I heard somewhere that they use more power or something to that effect.

Finally got around to adjusting the low beam ,vertical only. 8)
The high beam you can see into next week ,so didn't touch them.

Here is some pictures and tips ,the guys help with the comments above to make it easy. :D :D .

I took the gauges off ,...take the two nuts under the gauges out and slip you fingers under the bottom and slide them up still you can get your fingers of each side of the gauge housing and slowy pull back ,its held on with a plastic nob """and its still pluged in so don't pull it out far""".
leave the gauges pluged in.

Here are the 3 nuts and 1 nob ,see the manual for info on what one is what.
Or if you want ....now you can see what your looking for ,so you can come up from under the front fairing and feel around.
Image

You can get into the nuts from behind the gauge housing.

Line the bike up straight and use a wall to see the light beam move up or down.

And adjust away to suit ,go for a ride and come back and do it again if its not 100% right .

Please NOTE.....do it at your own risk. 8)

I have decided to adjust my low beam UP also. I have found that from the position your at while riding the bike, the low beam is adjusted "UP" by turning your 8mm wrench COUNTER CLOCKWISE. I have marked and turned it 3 times CCW for the first test on its position. It will be a trial and error process. One of the reasons I'm moving it up is so that I dont have to use the high beam too much because I want to keep the electrical draw down so I can use the 12V heated clothing (High and low beams are ON together when high beam switch is on ,draw from 2 bulbs) I dont want my battery being drained too much. Another reason is the low beam just does not shine far enough ahead to see road hazards. :!:

I wouldn't worry about not having enough power to use your high beams. I did some more searching, and found this thread from last year, on the same topic... So if anyone else is wondering, it looks like the bike makes about 400 watts, and uses around 230 watts. There should be plenty for heated gear.
