Figured I’d post a few helpful pictures for any other GSXF enthusiasts looking to install HID lighting on their 2008 Suzuki GSX650F. I chose to use a pre-existing, pre-drilled location for mounting the HID ballasts. To make certain vibration and movement of the ballasts is kept to minimum I secured the mounting brackets directly to frame using heavy-duty zipties (two ties for each ballast bracket). You will need to drill holes in both plastic caps. However, I ended up cutting and later butt-splicing the HID power connector for the low-beam because the hole size required was too large for the small size of the weather proof fixture cover. Make certain your weather seals (if included with the kit) fit snuggly in the hole(s) you drilled:

Notice the top [black] screw between the two electrical connections. That’s just used to secure a portion of the front-fairing to the bike frame. It fit the ballast bracket slot perfectly (no modification required). Make sure to get the zip ties nice and tight to avoid ballast vibration. Also make sure you have a solid ground connection for both HID lights or you may notice flickering (while stationary or moving).

For a point of reference, I used the cheap HID conversion kits (for automobiles, actually) from/manufactured-by VVME.com (though I purchased it from 'flashplus' off eBay). It was about $60US with shipping. And yes, for a few ($5US) extra bucks they mixed-matched the bulb types so you don’t have to purchase two separate HID conversion kits.

Thanks! I did get some pretty interesting looks at Bike Week among all the GSXRs, R1s, CBRs, etc. Don't think they could quite make out what it was... I need to get some pics up from that event :D

Agreed on both aspects. I wish i were closer to the north so i could get a paint job done by the same guy. Definitely quality!

oh my god i cant stop oogling over your bike! it seems to get better every time!

sad truth i found out a couple weeks ago.... a buddy of mine got pulled over... the cop said his HID is illegal because there is no cutoff point

like our bike his bike has no small flat metal piece to cut off the light point of the HID light beam which can be very bright to people who look in their mirrors. i just hope your HID is low pointed enough to make its own cutoff point lol  i hope it works well.

Yeah, we'd probably be worried if FHP cared. They are really laxed with that stuff.

I had heard there were legality issues surrounding the use of HID lighting on vehicles (cars or otherwise) that weren't pre-equipped w/ OEM HID lighting, but it was a chance I decided to take... We'll see how it works out on the road :? It is VERY bright with the high beam on, so I try not to ride with it at night (like I used to with the OEM halogens), but during the day it doesn't seem too bad and it certainly helps caged drivers notice you're coming their way :D

40hz, you're completely right... They are very lax with motorcycles in FL. The stock lighting just seemed inadequate (particularly the low beam), so I can at least see in the fog now ((useful in the swamp))

Louisiana is really lax on motorcycle enforcement too. In 18 years of riding in Louisiana, I have never gotten a ticket on my bike. I have had several in my car, but none on my bike, and I drive and ride like a crazy person. The cops just leave us alone. We are not even required to display an inspection sticker either.

When I used to live in Texas it was different story.

yep -- i live in texas. Couple neighbors that are on HPD claim they look for inspection stickers because there are so many bikers that are riding illegally (no license, no insurance, invalid plates).

The HID system is a lighting system containing a set of 2 bulbs, 2 ballasts and 2 starters. These kits are designed to make lighter and last longer than any extra lighting kits out there.
