with my manual car I had to do a rolling start. I had to get up to speed let out the clutch and then when the engine was turning (but not firing) push in the clutch to engage the clutch safety switch to allow the car to start. I assume it would be the same for any vehicle that you need to engage the clutch to start.
As with all begining and novice riders, some of which have not learned to balance their bikes. Push starting seems a little advance to grasp and as stated a possibility of going head strong into the curb or your neighbors yard could happen.
Although I can relate to having a dead battery.
I got my brand new gsx650f black of course and left it on with the parking lights over night. When hooking up to a car battery I don't believe was stated in the forum make sure you don't turn on the car, the amps from the battery it self is sufficent enought to get your bike started.
