I've got a small paint chip on my tank, which I've noticed is starting to show rust on the very small amount (about 1mm) of exposed metal. Does anybody have any tips how I can best treat this please?

Beuhler?...anyone?.....

Put masking tape around the chip. Sand the rusty spot with fairly coarse (100-150 grit) sandpaper. The masking tape should be placed such that you don't sand good paint. If the spot is really small you can skip a "metal-prep" coating and go to primer. Put a dab (or mask and spray) primer on the sanded area. Sand the primer with progressively finer paper. Start with 220, then 360 and 600. Each step should makethe sand scratches progressively finer. You can paint over 600, but going to 1000 grit before paint would give a better finish. Try to keep your work area as small as possible. Paint with proper touch up after thoroughly cleaning with wax and grease remover. Let the paint dry a day and then wet sand the area with 1500 and 2000 grit. Polish with rubbing compound and a finish glaze.
