I picked up my new GSX650F this weekend and have been putting a few miles on it. The only quibble I have is that past about 35 mph all I can hear is a howling noise coming from the front. Is this anything to do with the air intakes either side of the headlight? Do they do anything or are they just for show? Has anybody else noticed this and managed to quieten it down?

Cheers for that. The thing is I can't remember any such noise when I had a test ride a while back.

The intakes are purely decorative. I haven't noticed the sound.

Have mine for two days now. And I have the same 'problem'. Very noisy around the head. Try this: sit really straight up so your head is higher. Then the noise is gone. You cannot ride like this, but if you try this, we know we are talking about the same problem. So I was wondering if it could be fixed with a lower windscreen, but that doesn't seem to exist. Unless anyone says it does.

OK I might try that tomorrow and see if it makes a difference. I might try covering the mock air intakes to see if it is them thats causing the noise.

I haven't noticed anything like that on my bike. I'm going to guess that it can possibly be your helmet generating that type of wind noise.

Hi, I noticed this as well and yesterday I found the cause on my bike which might be the same problem as yours (not the solution yet...).

Put the bike on the stand and rev it to about 3k. You will hear the windscreen vibrating against the bike. If you lightly touch the bottom section of the screen then the noise goes away.

Apologies for not being able to post links to previous posts!

If you search for windscreen & vibration you will find some other guys on here also have windscreen vibrations. Some managed to fix it and others got the shop to repair it under warrantee.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your suggestions guys but I can tell you it isn't a vibration problem. It has nothing to do with the revs of the engine, purely the speed the bike is moving. I'm convinced it's just air turbulence. It's not my helmet. its definitely coming from the front of the bike.
I'll mention it when I take it in for the first service.

Hi just came across your post and having had my bike for about 4 weeks now i have been hoping to hear that somebody had heard the same noise as me.Mine starts at around 25 mph and sounds very much like wind noise through the fairing. like you i think i will try to get an opinion on the first service. Thought it was me being paranoid or going mad. keep me posted if you get any info matey.

It has nothing to do with vibration i think. But with turbulence, the flow of the air and the position of the rider. I read about a Suzuki screen with a deflector. You can change the flow on this screen, to match your position. Any experience with that?

Got my bike from Bill Smiths in Chester.Just passed the 300 mile mark so wont be long for service .However i may go to them before to try and get to the bottom of it. I just seem a little concerned that not every one has heard the noise. We may just be worrying about nothing. Will keep you posted matey!
