Hi everyone... after months of comparing bikes and countless hours in various forums I finally made my decision and picked up an 08 leftover GSX650 F woohaha. The friendly and mature conversations on this forum also influenced my decision (slightly). Really learned a lot about the bike from you guys and I could not be happier with my decision.
Anyway my question is: has anyone removed the fairing decals yet and if yes, did it leave behind the glue gunk and if yes, how did you get rid of it.

Thanks everyone!!!

G'day Fa5tB0B, greetings from Oz. Congrats on the new baby - nice to see a pic. 8)

mescol and Sleddog are 2 that come to mind who have removed/changed the fairing decals.

Are you planning on any mods?

I have removed the fairing decals.. easy to do.. park it in the sun let them warmup and peel.
A hairdryer can be used to warm them a little. I used a product called gunk-off to get rid of the last residue, but you can use a massage oil believe it or not.

Polish afterwards and it will be fine.

Note however yours has the decals on the tank UNDER the clear coat, you will not be able to remove them.

Congrats, you made a good choice.

As for the flaring decals... I've seen a picture on here somewhere of a blue & white with them removed, it's just didn't look right.
If I remember correctly, the poster ordered new decals because he was so unhappy with the outcome... just something to think about.
For whatever reason, it looks good with them removed on the fully black bike (I wish we had the black one here), & it works with the orange one too. If you're doing something custom, that's a different story.

panterafreak, papaR, splinter, thanks for the responses... i keep trying to picture her without the decals but it is difficult. the fluorescent red just glares at you. I also know i can not get rid off the red on the tank. perhaps thats why the bike may look weird if the fairing red is removed but not the red on the tank....
Would anyone else know where that picture might be of the blue F without the fairing decals?

Hello Fa5tB0B

See you've got a white/Blue version.... (Nice)

If I look at my tank, the decal is covered with clear paint................
I can never peel this off without painting the tank all over.

I just leave it like that.
I'm gonna add 2 red SUZUKI S Stickers. 8x8 cm
I found the bike of panterafreak who had them halfway on the white of the fairing.

Here is a pic of the decal removed on the blue & white... ugly if you ask me. I've learned to like the classic Suzuki look.

@ Panterafreak...
Hey i actually quite like it...in fact i do like it very very much.... i just find the fluorescent red decals too tacky and almost childish even. i think i will take the decals off today (its nice and sunny here in New Jersey USA). I would then probably try to get white decals to cover up the red stripes on the tank.
will definitely post pictures once i am done.
thanks again guys...

Hi Guys... so I removed the fairing decal and removed all the glue residue (not as easy as i thought)... am i happy with my decision at the end? ... YES.

However... i need to do something about the tank... i think i may want to take it off and repaint it completely... white and blue.. some combination thereof.

what do you think?

Humm... now your in a pickle!!

Seriously, it doesn't look bad, you know my feelings about this, but that's the beauty of making your bike your "own".
I was gonna say tank cover, but it won't cover the stripes, I've attached a pic of mine so you can see how far it covers.
I'd go with two small red & white stripes on the flaring to match... but if you wanna go stripe free, I'd do the tank totally blue, the latter option will cost more though.

Hey Fa5tB0B,

Where in Jersey are you? I'm in Wayne and ride down to Edison to visit my parents/friends pretty often.

Fa5tB0B, do you have other pictures on different angles you could post? I'm contemplating in doing this as well. I just need little more convincing.

Thanks!

if you talk to www.tapeworks.com, they may be able to match 08 GSX Blue paint chip on a vinyl.

you could vinyl over it.

from 5 ft away it'll be nice and nice. you won't need new chrome tank badges, you won't need paint, or sandpaper, or hours to prep and clean, you won't need a paint gun, or a professional, or a guy to match 08 GSX blue for your base coat. you won't have bubbles in your clear to wetsand out, you won't have a big polish job to do either.

I imagine they'd cut you some custom coverups for under 50 bucks. If they can match the chip.

What else, if anything are you going to do to the bike? - long term. You might get inspired by something you see and get a paint or vinyl done.

Any good bike shops out in Wayne, NJ? I don't care for the Motorcycle Mall in Belleville.
