I ordered an intercom system from www.ixcessory.com. I couldn't justify the money for the top end systems from Starcom or Autocom but so far there's very little to complain about. The corded intercom unit plus two headsets and shipping was under $200. The microphones seem to be pretty decent quality, although there is a fair bit of wind noise above 170km/h. Even then only normal speaking voice is required at all. We both opted to use the earbud connection over helmet speakers, so I haven't even tried them yet for quality. The unit automatically cuts music when the PTT button is pushed, and both riders can listen to the music source. I haven't tried the cell phone connection yet (still hoping my better half won't notice that option), but the radio input for bike to bike works perfectly as well. You can't communicate with another bike and your passenger at the same time which is a minor annoyance. All functions can be controlled remotely from the handle bar PTT unit which I like a lot so far.

The unit is powered by a 1000mAH LI-on battery which has lasted for about 12 hours of riding time now. If anyone was going to order one I would recommend extension cables for the headsets and the bike power cord as well.

I am very happy with this purchase so far. If the weather permits tomorrow I'll try and run cords to keep the unit under the seat, mp3 player strapped up front with the PTT button and just one cord running for each helmet. Space is getting to be a premium under the seat :D
