Well after servicing the bike on the weekend I thought I would go for a quick ride & make sure everything was ok. As usual I forgot to hook up the front indicators after having the fairings off when I took off so I pulled over on the side of the road & reconnected them. Went to start the bike again & it didn't want to start. Very faint "N" light coming on & struggling to turn over. Ended up push starting it for the first time & got it going & thought I would just head back home. About 5km from home I shifted down the gears & noticed the dash frozen at 67km/h, 4th gear & 0 rpm. Hmmmm. something's not right, have I stuffed up the service somehow ???

Turned into my estate & the bike spluttered a bit like it was out of fuel, a bit further up the road about to turn right at the roundabout & it did it again except this time it cut out completely & I coasted to a stop ahead. Turned the ignition off then back on & had a full LCD readout with every LCD character lit up, no tacho up/down or start up check. Disconnected then reconnected the battery & got the dash & check to work, tried another push start & nothing. Rang a mate who came around to give me a hand and a bigger push & managed to get going. 1km down the road it died again when I slowed up to an intersection. Wouldn't push start, dash frozen, FI light on, no neutral light. WTF have I done ??? Pushed it the remaining 800 metres home & lit a fire under it & burnt it to the ground.

Didn't actually burn it but felt like that at the time. Mate came around with the battery out of his bike & we hooked it up & it started with no problems. Put my battery back onto the charger & after a while turned it over & it fired to life as usual first go.

It's the original battery & an 08 bike so it's probably near the end of it's life. If it's the reg/rec to blame would the bike be only running off the charge in the battery until it's gone & then shut down?

Just glad I was only at most 10km from home & not in the middle of nowhere when this happened.

BTW, disregarding the bike cutting out, after the TPS adjustment & throttle body synch & iridium plugs the bike runs so much smoother.

Al.

The stock batterys are only good for 2 years so "they say" ,so your got your moneys worth.
Saying that I still have my original battery and have run it dead 3 or 4 times from leaving the key in it and its still okay ,but will have to replace it soon.
Get the recall done its a 20 minute job .Just call your dealer ,give them your VIN number and get a time to have it done.

Biggest issue is going to be if it is the reg/rec that's gone, how long can I ride the bike before it will die on me again? The bike started fine but then died further down the road. If it was just the battery I would think that it would have had trouble starting the first time. If it just has a shutdown while riding I am led to believe it will be the reg/rec not keeping charge to the battery. Is this correct ???
