UNfortuneatley these things are illegal in Victoria (Oz), the Vic roads regs state that indicators must be 30cm apart. mind you l have seen a couple of bikes around with these integrated tail lights installed - standard or mod l dont know. But, l had to look pretty hard to find that iece of legislation so l dont know if your average Plod would know either.

Very cool, thanks IsaaX. His links are stale, but he mentions FMVSS No. 108, and that does indeed appear to be the real McCoy applicable Federal thing. I'm still digging to find the actual authoritative regulation text somewhere. So far I'm only finding lots of "interpretations" and summaries and related government court records. Digging at http://www.regulations.gov looks like it might be productive, but it's a mess trying to sort out the court documents I don't care about, and for all I know it might not really even be there anyway.
Interestingly, it does seem, from what I've read so far while searching, that states can optionally mandate FMVSS 108 or not. If they do, it's the law. If they don't, then only state laws apply, even if contradictory. Apparently. Can't be sure, of course, until I see the actual regs/laws.
Very frustrating that it's not easier to get clear authoritative documented answers on this kind of question. I guess that's why attorneys get the big bucks, they wade through this kind of crap all day long.

I guess the next question is how much is the fine. If it's not too much it might be worth the risk.
It's just a "fix it" ticket for us. Basically make the adjustments to make it legal then take it in for inspection. Inspection fee is like $15 I think.
