As above.

A friend of mine insists I should chop off the rear fender, but he says I have to keep the rear red reflector or the bike won't pass the rego inspection and can be booked etc. I was at the dealer today for the service and I saw some of the bikes there with rear fenders removed didn't have the reflectors...

I'm slightly confuzzled now. Is this thing required by the regulations or not?

Yes you must have it.
Plus if you cut down the rear fender its illegal also.

If you want to be legal ,don't cut any thing......but everyone does it and doesn't worry about it.

Wow, Sleddog, you're pulling these things at a moments notice. I see the mudguard requirements, but nothing about the rear reflector. Have you got another one? :P

That... Is by far, the most angering PDF i think i have ever read! It may as well be entitled ''how to not have fun on your motorcycle''. Bah. Go for your life mikie. I put a competition werkes fender eliminator on mine and it hasn't caused me any grief yet... Touch wood. It has chopped everythings off except my brake light.

Like sled said, it's one of those things that is technically illegal, but every one does it so don't worry about it. Like loud exhausts, ape hangers, lowering your front end, running slicks on a public road... Things that everyone does that just aren't regularly enforced... If some knob of a mechanic won't road worthy your ride, go somewhere else that will. Find a fellow sports bike rider who has a inspection licence and go to him :D

Far out... Dashy, you're a Devil's Spawn! :) What are you trying to do, turn me into a hoon?!? I obey the law!

*quickly throws a cover over the bike with aftermarket exhaust and no fender, whistling innocently*

A bit of red reflective tape is adequate to comply with the adr's - legal mumbo jumbo http://www.comlaw.gov.au/Details/F2009C00579

The problem is these are the common, simplest mods a cop looks for if you fail the attitude test, or they are being a dick.

Yeah... I know for sure I'd fail their attitude test. They are never around when some dick wants to kill me on the bike, or a moron wants to kill him(her)self when I'm in a truck, but when I do something wrong they magically appear with the fine already written up. And I can't keep my mouth shut to anyone :(

Maybe I'll stick a red reflector on the number plate frame. That'll satisfy the legal mumbo-jumbo, and I won't have to pretend to be nice.
