Hi everyone,
My "F"'s stand decided to flick up and lay the bike down the other day, I need to repair it. (my fault really for not ensuring the stand was fully out I guess )
I've sorted the clutch lever, 5 minute job, indicator is on order.
But what's lurking behind the Magneto cover? - Any oil? Anyone know the procedure for removing it? - I'm either going to get it rubbed down and sprayed, or replace it.
Or is it best to leave it on there, cover the bike, rub down and give it a dusting with alloy wheel paint?
The scratches are light, not deep, so it should cover up nicely.
Anyway, if you have any ideas on getting that cover off or any other ideas, give me a shout.
a good fix, might want to lighly sand the scratches first before pulling decals on to take off any rough edges. A lot cheaper than a new cover thats for sure.

TristanC, how is the project going?
I am interested in seeing the finished product. I also had the mistake of not putting the kickstand all the way down and the bike went all the way down. Only minor cosmetic scratches, can hardly see, but seems like that magneto cover likes to get scratched when she lays down.

It's going ok.
The sticker set arrived yesterday morning, but after I stuck the first one on the cover, I realised that the guy had sent me the wrong set. - He has two for sale, one is a cheaper looking carbon vinyl and the other is more expensive, but looks alot more like carbon and is also alot more thick.
I paid for the more expensive set, but it was a genuine mistake as I'd been chatting to him about the cheaper set for a day or two previous. But he's sending me replacements, so no problem.
Here's the pics from his auction to compare the two types:
Cheaper ones I received:
More expensive ones:
As I said above, I did attach the magneto sticker before realising it was wrong. So here's the pics of it:
Here's what you get in the set:
When I receive the other set, I'll stick up some better pics of those fitted. - But So far, I actually quite like this mod. It's not something I would have considered before damaging the cover, but I now quite like it !!

Hi Tris If you look at my posts titled "I made a costly mistake" and "crash band aid" you will see that I made the same mistake after my second ride with only 180k I fixed the bike myself but its been a while though so my memory might be fading. I will touch on the highlights If you get stuck I have the manual at my other house l and I could get it and get into specifics if you need 1)yes there is oil behind the cover getting the cover off is pretty straight forward you will need a new gasket as it will be really stuck, dont loose the alignment dowels part of the magneto is attached to the cover so remove it carefully as I seem to remember it didnt easily unplug from the engine 2) the magnetism makes it hard to pull off the cover you may have to gently pry it after ensuring you have removed all the bolts I think the bolts are various lengths so I placed them in a peice of scrap cardboard that had a quick sketch of the cover outline you will also need some loctite as the bolts holding the coils in the cover use it and a dab of gasket sealant should be put on where the engine block halves join I also think the starter gear wanted to keep popping out so place a rag or piece of cardboard on the ground so if it does fall out you dont chip it good luck if you decide to go that route.
