I was riding last weekend when was it 27 degrees (F) Anyway, the rod I am on has 2 east and 2 west bound lanes with a concrete median in between (Just a slab of concrete the heighth of a curb). Anyway, I am coming up on an intersection and since i am in the #1 lane (left), I see cars in the turn lane and in front of them is this HUGE SUV. Well when I come up on intersections, I always get in the #2 (right) lane so that people who want to turn left in front of me can see me before they do. If I stay in the left lane they don't see me until I am on top of them and WHAM!.
Anyway, I realize I need to get over and sure enough, as soon as I get in the right lane, this White Cadillac turns left and sees me, he then floors it cause I hear the the tires squealing. He realized he was already commited and so was I, so he completes his U-Turn instead of stopping like a deer caught in headlights, and I swing back to the left lane. We had plenty of time, so no REAL emergency. But the cool thing was, as I passed him, he looked at me and waved and said "Sorry" I waved back and said "No problem."
I am glad I remembered to switch lanes before I got there but I was thinking of something else that moment. Anyway, I just thought I would pass it along. I normally switch before I even get close to Intersections but did not this time. I still had plenty of room, but if I had not recognized the possible issue, I would have possibly had Cadillac for breakfast.
I love munchies!

Ride safley all,
John

Positioning yourself on the road at key areas to avoid an incident is very important.
It's good that you remembered, but it should become something that you automaticaly do without any thought.
It all comes down to experience and the good habits you learn from riding over periods of time.

A good point you've raised John and an even better reminder for everyone. Especialy at this time of the year.

Don't know about the rest of the world but around Christmas all the cagers drive like fools with an even bigger lack of focus than normal.

Eagalicious , you described a scenario that I've not considered, and it saved you! I'll have to keep this on file in my head. My normal route doesn't include oncoming U-turn lanes, but still, it's a good piece of advice. I am constantly trying to be in the right place, all the time in traffic. Thanks for sharing!
