I just changed my oil and filter and by happy coincidence I used all of my remaining synthetic oil. This means I need to buy some new oil for my next oil change and it got me wondering whether I should bother paying more for synthetic vs the cheaper mineral oil.
So what do you all think? I will be keeping the bike for probably at most another 20,000km (currently at around 30,000km). Anyone using mineral oil beyond the first 1,000 km? Had any problems? Musings?

Hey Spudman, are you on NetRider? Plenty of discussion over there about the merits of various types of oil. FWIW I don't even know what's in mine now, but will be going semi-synth at next change.

Not on netrider, but I have stumbled across it a few times after googling various things.
I should have phrased my question more carefully seeing as oil threads almost always degenerate into "religious" debates. I just wanted to know if anyone had been exclusively using non-synthetic oil with their 650F and whether they had experienced any problems.
Since posting this thread I remembered the main reason I haven't been using non-synthetic: It's hard (impossible?) to find cheap non-synthetic oil with 10w40 viscosity. I did use 20w40 in my 650F at one point but the motor was noticeably struggling. Not enough to cause concern, but enough for me to know the bike wasnt running optimally.

Also depends on your riding climate. Since you live in a pretty warm climate, 10W50 or 20W50 would be a better choice for your engine. Yes at first to oil (due to thickness at ambient temps) will let your engine 'struggle' but in the end could be better lubricating at higher temps.
Even with my Bandit 1250 oil heat Xchanger (which normally keeps my Oil between 80-90C with 20-25 outside temp) I got my oil temps up to 105 degrees C in Freiburg (south in Germany) with outside temps of 32C riding in traffic. Just imagine the 35-40C degrees you ride in without the heat Xchanger.
