Hey Wrongturn, I just found out that the following lights are NOT legal Any flashing light Any additional light that has more than 0.05 Candela (Most LED lights are OK no Neon) No colored light other than red in the back No red or blue light in the front (as you mentioned they are reserved for law enforcement) I think most under body lights are ok as long as you can only see the glow not the bulb.

I typed a long essay about this and my web browser glitched. Here's the short version:
Many cities/ towns have issues with cars that are equipped with underbody glow kits and anything with strobes that resemble EMS or cops. (Not that they ride sport bikes with lights while in uniform) One of the fundamental things my riding instructor taught us is to be seen and heard, especially in this era when someone's cell phone conversation, text messaging, makeup application, or eating is more important than the 2 ton vehicle they are speeding in. I rather be alive to ride. So on those dark poorly lit highways- I won't be mistaken for a car with a busted light. I rather eat the ticket for having the lights. Some states allow you to ride without a helmet but will give you a hard time for tints or light?! If it were such a criminal offense- why allow the HIDs, body kits, and exhausts to sold in the first place? We all know these are not show bikes. It's the only thing I own that is remotely flashy. They say the lights are too distracting- Is it my fault during the day or night that the faster than speed of light burnt orange 650f is something you just can't keep your eyes off of? PAY ATTENTION TO THE ROAD!
Colors of various lamps--restriction of red lights, penalty. 307.095. 1. Headlamps, when lighted, shall exhibit lights substantially white in color; auxiliary lamps, cowllamps and spotlamps, when lighted, shall exhibit lights substantially white, yellow or amber in color. No person shall drive or move any vehicle or equipment, except a school bus when used for school purposes or an emergency vehicle upon any street or highway with any lamp or device thereon displaying a red light visible from directly in front thereof.
I checked with our highway patrol before doing my lights and this is what the told me to use. We can have any color light except for red. The bulb can not be showing and the light can not be forward facing. They said as long as its not flashing they would not give me a hard time for it, as they understand the safty reasons.

Well, that's fair enough. (Hopefully I won't run into any cops who may be color blind if I'm down there) What other color matches with burnt orange? (since the orange lights I've seen may be subject to scrutiny) !@#$%^ it! I'll just have to get a second bike... maybe something slower like the blue & white 650f
I really dont think cops give bikes a hard time for lights, the only time I was is when pulling out of a gas station I left the pulsing affect on and he just told me to change em. One of my buddies rides around with a red cbr with red lights and hasnt been pulled over yet.

Rushx imo is correct u want to be seen. I left my all LED blinker system flash fast, i really think it is a big plus.
And yet i see Big jay, get a verbal fix warning, to me the Patrolman should have said good job.
Reading one of the states safety programs, i forgot what state, one point that they said use "Hi Beam To Be Seen" i do that now if i split lanes.

I always drive with my high beams on, some drivers might think its annoying but at least they see me. I have been complimented many times by officers on my lights, I figure they would rather have a few bikes with lights or be picking them up off the street.

When I am leaving NJ going into PA, the toll booth collectors always ask me if I have my high beams on. To be honest, I feel like it's not enough. When I'm in my car, I try to stay within a safe following distance from the vehicle in front of me- there's always someone trying to squeeze into that little gap to cut you off. Sometimes they almost merge right into the side panel of the car. Sure I have side curtain air bags (not that I want to use them) but I often imagine what would have happened if I were on my bike at that moment. At least a drive should be able to see a brightly colored object out of the corner of their eye if they can't hear the bike because their music is blasting. I think if everyone rode a bike at some point in their lives there would be the "Ohhh, now I get it!" moment. And yes, I do ride in the HOV lane! lol
