Oil is one of the biggest debates in the history of Man
Do Not use energy conserving oil in your motorcycle if you are using regular conventional oil.
Here is a good place to get some good education on what you can and cannot use but its all up to the user. Good Luck

Just so you know I have been using Shell Rotella Petroleum until breakin is over and switching to the synthetic Shell Rotella afterwards for many miles and many different bikes and have never had a problem with any of them but I am religious when it comes to changing my oil and filter every 3000 miles on every vehicle I own even if its synthetic oil.

If I buy a high end / high performance vehicle brand new I would be a bit worry because new technologies have been develop that have special oil needs, so in that case I would stick with the book and do what Suzuki says to do....

But if you just have a regular motorcycle, nothing special to it, I don't see the need to use any special oil either.

I own a cruiser C50 and from the first oil change at 100 miles, all I have used is regular Shell Rotella oil. Up to this day I have had no a single problem, the engine still runs strong, smooth shifting, no one complain and I get a whole gallon of it for $10 at Walmart.

Notice that most amount of engine shavings on a new engine happens within the first 100 miles, so why would you want to wait until 600mil to do the first oil change, while in the mean time you are running that engine for 600 miles with all the loose metal particles going everywhere inside the engine.

I have gotten 3 new motorcycles in the past 4 years, (still looking for the perffect one), and when I get the bike at the dealer, I also get an oil filter. When I leave the dealer I take my first ride to Walmart and pickup a gallon of oil and by the time I make it home I have about 98 miles. The next morning, I change the oil.

I have develop this routine that works for me, I show up on the second to last day of the month near closing time, dealer closes at 8pm, I show up at 7pm, on that last day of the month where they want to close the month strong. I put up a fight for the original price agreement, then they take the bike of the show room to get it ready for me, and then I get could feet and I back away from the deal. By this point the bike is already getting ready for the road, but I am still not bound to the deal because the keys have not being turn over. They will do anything just to get you to take the bike home.

On my last bike I got the bike at MSRP out the door plus they gave me a free EOM windshield and a free brand new summer jacket which all added up to $900 store value. Then I took the keys and rode the thing home and so far I have had not one single issue using suzuki filters and regular Rotella oil.

I don't see how Rotella oil could harm the GSX650F, but one has to be careful...

By the way, that trick with the dealer is no longer working because now the local small town local own dealers are getting acquired by big corporation and the two best local dealer are now own my Ride Now and must of my favorite salesmen have been fired, whole new staff so I won't even try anymore....

Yes, so many factors and opinions!

It just seems a moot point to be concerned about as only a tiny percentage of riders keep their bike until the point where engine wear starts to become a factor (usually 40,000 - 50,000 miles for a Japanese mid range bike). If you are going to keep a new bike that long it makes sense to use the best oils but if it's just going to be a couple of years then any reasonable oil changed regularly is going to do fine (just my opinion, I may be an idiot :) ).

With the high turn over rate and the kind of riding that must people do, easy on the engine, buying expensive oils is only an investment to benefit the next owner...

I got my C50 1.5 yrs ego and I am already thinking of trading it for the GSX650F, so what do I really care... Well, I do care enough to put new regular Rotella every 2500mi, but I don't care enough to buy Mobil 1.

I think the trick is in frequent oil changes as long as you use Rotella...

I have it down to where changing the oil only takes me 10min so frequent oil changes is not really a big deal for me and I do it with pleasure...

Our world is changing, it used to be that you will buy a motorcycle for life and then pass it own to your kids after you were done with it... In that case I would recommend Mobil 1, but is that really your case ? Are you planning on keeping that bike for that long ? I am sure 3yrs down the road when the new model comes out, you will be trading in and it will all go to waste at that point...

Use regular rotella at about $10 a gallon on every 2500mil and any of these low performance bike should be quite happy... No need for anything else...

By the way, went to a parade with a bunch of HD friends, the day was Hot and the parade was moving slow, at one point we just had to get out of the parade, all those HD were cooking those wind cool engines.... My trusty C50 was as happy as she could be....

Changed mine at 400 miles without removing any side panel. It was easy, just use metal oil filter cap, a 3/8 inch swivel socket with extension and a 3/8 inch socket wrench. Had the filter off within 2 minutes and total oil change in about 10. Have no idea what the fuss is about having to remove panels. With the right tools, it's a breeze.

I just did my first service and it was just as easy. I went to the dealer, and they wanted $298.00 to do the first service, they are out of their minds!

I couldn't get out of there fast enough! It is one of the big dealers in Anaheim Calif.

Also the Service Manager wasn't very nice...
