Hello, I am new to riding, just passed my direct access course last week and I pick up my first ever bike this Saturday. I am getting a Black 650f K8 and wondered if anyone could offer any quick hints/tips to get the most out of the bike in a safe controlled manner as a new biker.
Also is anyone aware of any know issues with the bike that I need to keep an eye out for
First of all: Beware of the weight. It's quite top heavy and especially at low speeds in narrow turns it tends to "fall". I've had mine for less than a year and my bikers license for two years but besides the weight issue (which is just a question of technique and training) I just love the bike.

Welcome aboard Ryan and crongrats on your new bike. Where are you from ?? Basic saftey gear is first and formost, helmet, gloves, jacket and boots. Allways remember people in cars will not see you, ride with your hi-beam on during the day. To some people the bike may seem heavy at slow speeds at first but once you get more comfortable with the bike you will not notice it. On the highway at higher speeds you will will be glad the bike has some weight to it, beleive me ! ! Lastly, pay attention to what going on around you at all times and enjoy the ride ! !

Bluebolt,
Re Hi-beam during day; that was another question I had... I'm a newbie and only ridden a couple of times at night. Low beam seems to suck and high beam seams quite focused, without seeming to intrude into on-coming traffic. Would you recommend Hi-beam ALL the time?
Cheers, Matt
PS. Ryan, congrats. I love this bike (I call mine an "F4" when friends/family ask - not many biker-aquaintances, so who cares ) and the weight really isn't an issue if you don't take it for granted at low speed, stopped on sloping ground or man-handling out of the shed. That it's also great bang-for-buck is a real plus.

Hey Matt, sorry it took so long to respond to your question. Yes, I ride with my hi-beam on during the day. It really draws attention in a good way. I have noticed that people in cars usually move out of my way when I pull up behind them and I dont even have to flash my head light. At night my biggest concern is being seen from the back and sides. Thats the reson I went with LED turn signals and brake light. I wanted retina searing bright lights ! ! Check out my post on LED Flush (Surface) Mounted Lights viewtopic.php?f=1&t=4522. At night the lo-beam is bright enough for me but I guess I could go with a little more little. More is allways better, right ??

Hey Blue Bolt, no dramas! You don't work for the government, do you?
I ended up pulling off the dash, replacing the stock globes with brighter ones and tilting them up to match the car. Chalk and cheese; what a difference!
Cheers, Matt
