I'm 47 years old. I have'nt ridden a bike since my early 20s. I really interested in the 650f. Its a beautiful bike. But, from what i'm seeing a lot of is its not a good bike for novices. The weight, speed etc. I'm 5'11" and about 210lbs. Would I really have that much of a problem with control? I also plan on taking a riding course if I buy the bike. Getting discouraged. Someone help me.

Hi missriss,
Not a problem with this bike !!!!!!!!
It is a great machine and I am sure everyone here will agree. Like you, I hadn't ridden in 30 years, but I have got back on like it was yesterday.
The bike is very forgiving with handling (as long as you are not stupid with it) and it's weight is not an issue. I am 58, 5'10" and 100Kg and the GSXF is exceptionally comfortable. It has plenty of grunt for when it's needed and can also be ridden with ease at low speed.
It is a good (sorry, GREAT) all-round performer, that looks good, goes well and is great fun to ride.
Definitely do the course and then you can ride like Miss Daisy - you don't have anything to prove.
Cheers from Oz.

Everyone is differnet ,so what maybe good for some maybe not be for others and thier situation.
You may of also read about some people that should look at other bikes on this forum ,some of the bikes are not all full power ,some are restricted ,so another bike choice maybe a better as they can't go over a certain speed and a smaller size bike might be a better for day 1 never ridden before rider ,and the reasons they should look at some thing else ,is they will want to upgrade in 12 months to a full power 650F ,and loosing money on resale ......
For you I would say GET IT !!!.
Reasons ...you have ridden before so your halfway there ,even if it was many years ago ,your still got the basics and its like riding a bike. Your taller then some other riders and will be able to push the bike around while sitting on it. Your doing a course ,again you way infront of some others.
Don't worry about the power its a pussy cat at low rpm and you control the speed ....it won't wheelie unless you REALLY REALLY try ,so forget about that worry.
The weight ..
FORGET about the weight as soon as your moving ,you could be riding a pushbike ,you won't give it a second thought.
But ,the weight is a concern with pushing it around the garage or parking lot.
This is fixed ,by your size and weight ,you can push it around easier then someone thats 4 foot tall and weighs 100 pounds.
And when pulling into a parking lot ,Plan a head ....never park nose into the curb and never nose down hill.
Now you know that ,forget about the weight .
Test ride one and see .
If don't buy it ,come back here and tell us why ,might help someone else in the future.

I'm 50 and like yourself had been out of riding for 25 yrs when I bought my "F". I too was a bit nervous about getting back in the game. But, I found that after all those years it came back like it was just yesterday. The bike is a bit heavy but, it's totaly a non issue. You will love it once you get used to it. I say GO FOR IT and don't look back !!!
i have been riding for alomost 3 months....thats it. i personally think this bike is ideal for begginers....but that is just my opinion.

I too had not ridden a bike in over 25 years- fell in love with the bike an bought it.
It was like I had not forgotton- actually waited a few days because I was scarred and wondered if I had made teh proper decision.
Have no regrets- a wonderfull capable bike, quick, ease of handling and my wife enjoys riding on the back- buy the bike and you'll have no regrets!

I think its a great bike for a novice if they use their brains. lots of power so you will not get bored so quick ! Very comfy and it won't take long until you are a master again. Its my first bike in a few years and i am hooked again!
