I have an 08 i bought in april. i havent ridden it in about 4 weeks (I was over the 600 mile service and didnt want to push it). I did the oil change today and the battery was dead the second time I tried to start it. question: how long should a new, fully charged battery last?? and can I jump it with a car???

I've had my bike since may of 08 and the battery on it is still perfect. granted i had it plugged into a tender over the winter and I did start it about once every 2-3 weeks. Not starting it for 4 weeks shouldn't have made it drain I wouldn't think. I could be wrong. I think people have talked about jumping it with a car, but I'm not certain about it. You may have to do a search to check that one out. I do know a friend had a dead battery in his bike and he plugged it into a charger and from then on it would stay charged as long as he rode it once in a while. Perhaps you have a faulty battery?

Battery will be find ,some times you can leave the bike for 3 months and it will start ,some times its 3 weeks ,all depends on the weather and if your doing short trips ,or rode it for a week trip and left it for 3 months.
Charge it ,ride it ,forget about it.

Yeah you can jump it with a car, so long as the car voltage is ~12V (just to make sure!) Also watch your jumper cables on the bike side - that the +ve (red) cable doesn't touch the frame of the bike as this can cause a short. Space is limited in the area
