Ever since fitting my frame sliders I've had this buzzing noise, It sounds like it's coming from the fairing.
What I've checked:
* I made sure that the fairing is tight fitting, and put back together well. * The spaces/bolts on the frame slider are done up extremely tightly, to prevent vibration. * I put some tissue between the plastic outer frame slider and the fairing where they touch, without success.
What I'm going to do next:
* I'm going to remove the fairing again, and go out for a ride. If the buzzing is gone, it's definitely the fairing. If the buzzing still exists, it's something to do with the frame slider. * If it's the fairing causing the buzzing, I'll put it back together with some clear silicon sealer to prevent vibration. * If it's the frame slider, I have no idea what I can do.
I know there are others on the forum who have installed frame sliders, have any of you experienced this?

I've had fairing replaced but never any buzzing from it. They never seem to go back on 100% compared to factory though.
One thing i'll suggest though before you decide to attack it with silicone. Go to Bunnings first, check out the plumbing section and get a pack of mixed rubber grommets and seals. They're only a few bucks. Mount the fairing back on with the rubber grommets in place which should dampen any vibrations.
If it's the frame sliders, same deal. Take em off and remount them with a rubber grommet. Don't over tighten anything either!!!!. That could be your downfall to start with. Extremley tight does not always mean preventing vibration. It can be the complete opposite as vibrations can resonate through and amplify.

My best guess is that the slider and the fairing are rapidly bumping into each other causing the buzzing sound. I don't believe the slider is supposed to touch the frairing.
Reposition the slider, or get a different one.
When you put the fairings back on, did you have any trouble getting the screws to align properly? I discovered that I needed to put the big screw in the middle (kinda the middle) on first, then the other screws would align perfectly and the fairing was easy to put back on. I doubt it, but it might be the fairings are not on properly, and thus slightly out of alignment and thus touching the slider. But I think it's the slider that's not fitting properly.

I found out the cause of the buzzing, just in case anyone else has this problem:
The bar has two slip-on aluminium tubes which slip on either end, before being bolted to the frame slider assembly. As far as I can see, these two slip on ends don't seem to serve any purpose, in some situations they may strengthen the bar but I doubt they make any difference. Anyway, the size of these slip on's were causing the bar to come into contact with the bolts that hold the exhaust pipes on to the engine. I removed the slip on's and now the vibration has gone.
One other thing I did was: there is a plastic casing that contains the radiator fan, the edge of the casing touches the bar, so I cut just enough off to stop the contact.
I'm not sure whether it was cutting off that piece of plastic, or removing the slip on's, but either way the buzzing is now completely gone.

What kind of Sliders did you install Firey? I have had PUIG sliders From very early on and have noticed the viration aswell The slider themselves are definetly no where near the fairing but there are some spacer tubes. could you possibly take a picture of the offending area? even though you have sorted your current problem maybe you could have someonemachine down the offending area where the slider comes so close to the fairing. touching even intermittantly can cause cracking of your fairing at a later date? On a side notefor anyone else as an alternative to regular silicone for vibration relief ,Latex based ones are available which should not deteriorate the plastic or the paint they are usually listed as paintable or water based (painters calking)

hey farley I've already fixed the problem in my last post I just took the sliding sleeves off and cut some plastic off the radiator fan casing. Unfortunately I can't take any pictures because my fairing is back on, but you should get the idea from my last post.

I posted this under the subject "Frame slider deal for the forum" after fittimg mine...
"I'm also a little concerned that the 2 large spacers are a loose fit on the cross brace and could rattle. I put some locking compound on these to hopefully prevent this!"
I checked them yesterday and so far they have remained fast, before adding the compound they were a very loose fit on the long bolts, tightening these makes no difference as they are originally free to slide a little.

Simpler cause -- Last time I changed my oil I put the fairing bolts in wrong. ONE of them is longer than the others. When I switched them around the buzzing went away.
