Hi everyone,
I've got an 09 gsx650f with just over 3000kms on it. Followed all the factory run in recommendations and only had it serviced at the shop i bought it from. On the last ride i went on, after about 120 kms of riding i noticed an engine surge around 9-10K rpm. At those revs, when I opened the throttle it was like the bike stopped sucking any fuel for a moment, then it would kick in, then not, and so on. When I persist and hang on through the surging, if i get it to about 12 it stops momentarily.

We stopped for a while and when we took off it was good for another 10 to 15 minutes then acted up again. I have since taken for a ride to see if it was an intermittent problem, but after 30 mins or so it was surging again. As you can appreciate, i have only had a chance to test this surging problem in second and third as I value my license and there are far too many speed cameras in my local area.

I'm not much of a mechanic but my mind tells me that it has to be heat related.. but no warning lights have come on.
Has anyone else experienced this problem? or have any possible solutions?

Cheers,
Matt

Sync the carbs. Carbs not sync'd can cause overheating in cylinders, and funny surging.
I think I had to do mine around 5,000 miles.
Just my opinion......

My father suspected it may be some bad fuel. I always run 95 or higher octane.
We drained the tank, leaving just enough to get to the nearest petrol station. I filled it up with some fresh fuel and took it out for about an hour or so. Gave it hard time in 2nd, wasn't much room to hold it up there in 3rd. So far so good.. keeping my fingers crossed :?

changing the fuel could be all it is as old fuel does go stale and cause probs.

also consider the fuel filter as it could be the problem seeing how your issue is at the upper end of the rev range

it could be the pump itself but don't think so. I do know of issues with rust in the tank but they seam to be isolated to OS as I've not heard of one in Oz yet

Add Seafoam to the fresh gas---I've seen it what appeared to be small miracles--I use 1 oz. per gal. every 5th tank on both bikes--Good luck--Ride safe---Luke

There is an old tale that has been going around for a very long time that a half cup of either Kerosene or Metho in a full tank of juice also does wonders. Both have different effects. Kero will raise the octane a tad and also raise the lubrication rate in the fuel for the injectors. Metho will absorb any traces of moisture in the tank.
I don't know how good either works but many have said it does. I have heard from a few Busa owners that have been using the Kerosene for quite a while and swear by it's effect.

Could be an airlock in the tank. If it happens again open the filler cap. If there is a sucking noise you need to clear the breather.
