Had my 62,000km service this week and finally got around to asking about the headlight. I've always found it was quite dim compared to other bikes. I didn't want to go down the route of installing a HID kit but they told me that there were standard quartz halogens that were much brighter available at auto shops.
Stopped in at an AutoBarn (Australian auto store) and asked about better globes. A fellow rider working there said sure thing they had them and lots of riders bought them. They are just higher quality Phillips globes that claimed to put out 80% more light. I bought a HB3 for the high beam and a H7 for the low beam. Cost $41 ea.
Headed home and installed them straight away. Let me tell you, that's one of the best improvements I've made in the last two years of riding! Not only are they brighter but the pattern is wider so I can see further to the sides as well. I can't believe they don't put these in as stock as it makes it much easier to see at night.
Don't know if this is an issue only in Australia but if anyone else isn't impressed with the headlight output I'd highly recommend you check these Phillip globes out.

I'm with you 100% it makes a HUGE difference for such little money and time to fit. Its a MUST for everyone. I put Narava globes in mine and I even ride with high beam on the freeway ,never had anyone flash me to turn them down.On a single lane back road I would turn the high beam off. What the difference between the stock globe and the new globes ,was how yellow the old globes are .The brightness of the white light ,you can tell what some thing on the road is ,...like a rock or a soda drink can ,you can tell what some thing is WAY before you get to it....the difference is night and day. Plus its seems like the light is alot wider and out in front.

Had to bump the thread for an enquirey as darryl, Sled and 650 here sems to have gone for the +80% headlights, or the Phillips 'X-Treme Power' 3500K lights...
Has anyone gone to the "Essential Vision' +100% 4000K bulbs or equivalent? i'm just curious as they warn against chucking them in with plastic headlamps and/or polycarbonate lenses... I wonder if anyone has gone that far with/without any dramas??
