I blocked that hose off, and while it no longer backfires, it idles like garbage and tends to stall from any sort of goose of the throttle. I put mine back the way it was. I'm not sure if my bike just wants that open, or it wasn't completely blocked causing a vac. leak, but it was NOT happy about it.

I plugged mine, it did idle funny, but it didn't pop. I also had my bike Dyno Tuned and had a custom fuel map made for it....funny idle gone.

The kit that I mentioned comes with a resistor to fool the computer so you can retain proper running. In reality the backfire is not bad and I am not in any hurry to fix it. Not to mention it will pollute slightly less leaving things intact.
