hey all. i have been thinking of a replacement commuter for my present bike ('06 aprilia caponord bought new in october '09). i ride 20,000 + miles per year rain or shine just to work and back. is anyone doing those kind of miles on the 650? the capo has been near flawless but i am considering a replacement so i can turn the capo into a fire road pig/ camper. what mpg can i expect doing 90% freeway at 75 mph no hills? the location is the san francisco bay area so rain is a reality for weeks at a time. i get about 14.5-16k out of my tires, any chance of that on the 650? anything else i should know? i can pick up an '08 with less than 3k miles for around $4500 US. is that a good deal? thanks in advance for the help.

Hi welcome to the group, I used to work out there, doing refinery NDT and, heat treating, I do a pittstburg / antioch commute to Richmond bay point, noooooooooooo problems.
In fact back in may when the big rain storm come in i rode that day, it was pretty fierce weather all traffic down to 40 mph on hwy 80 west.
One mod i would suggest, with all the lane splitting / slow traffic and the hot hot weather is adding the 1250 bandit oil cooler.

You probably get between 45-47 US mpg If you use proper tires like the Pilot Road 2/3 you could easily get 12k miles out of a tire. With my riding style I reached about 14000km with them but those were 50/50 mountain riding/riding the crap out of it

I got 20,000km out of my stock tyres whilst commuting, but I seem to be the exception. I probably could have gotten a couple more thousand km's out of them too but I was happy to see them gone.
