That touring set up is exactly what I am looking to do with the bike! I'm downsizing from a Concours and looking for something that would be a perfect mid-size tourer.

The biggest trip i've done is 1 day's riding, about 800km. Buy the end the of the day i had a score neck, next time i will put touring bars on and change the rear sproket ,slower take off but less less rpm at higher speed.
Also a sheep skin seat cover for that extra comfort.
I also have a large seat bag that store's all the gear i need and a packpack this has all i need.Next trip i will spend a few bob and make my 650f a poor man's tourer that will make my next trip more enjoyable.

Top cases may suck as far as appearances go (at least in the eyes of some), but when you are touring in the pouring rain, or you need to park your bike and leave all your gear with it you don't care what they look like, you are just thankful to have them. There's a little too much concern about how bikes "look" around here IMHO By the time I am finished with my bike I expect to be awarded the "ugly duckling 650F" award !
Personally, tail bags are about the only form of luggage I haven't tried out yet and the platoon one looks pretty good. Are they easy to attach and remove? How long to convert it to a backpack ?
