Has anyone installed an electrical socket in their fairing? Either a cigarette lighter type or a USB? If so, could you share the plans, etc. I want to do this for a GPS unit.

Yes I have a 12V socket in the topfairing for my GPS.
Also have heated grips and Xenon. All 3 are switched by a relais , mounted by my battery, with a 10A fuse. Turn the key, and power is ON. So if you park your bike, the battery is still full when you get back
You don't need to be a electrical engineer to make this work.

I haven't mounted an auxiliary (cigarette lighter) power socket into my bike, but I did wire in the power supply to my GPS.
It's quite easy - you should use a relay.
I used switched ignition power from the fuse box to engage (switch) the relay, with connections directly to the battery (with 5 amp inline fuse) positive, negative and of course power up to the GPS cradle.
It's a great way to do it, as it's ignition switched (ignition off, GPS switches off), fuse protected, and on it's own circuit (it's never going to over load the bike's other electrics). I can also use it to power other accessories in the future if I choose to as I have used a 30 amp relay so it has plenty of capacity (the GPS sharger is only drawing about 450mA). I can change the rating of the inline fuse at any time to suit the overall power demands of this circuit, and if I choose to I can have smaller fuses for each individual accessory.
I may install a 12v power socket as above (nice work Lampie!). If so, I will buy a marine 12v power socket for it's weather proofing qualities.
Would you be so kind as to provide photos of the relay locations and wiring. If you have a schematic that would be great! But pictures would be extremely helpful.

Hey guys, I just went down to the horn, one wire is hot all the time when the key is on, Suzuki must switch the ground to honk the horn, anyway, it's fused so it should be safe, and there is a nice fairing mount bolt to ground to right there, I used a piggy back female bayonet connector on the hot terminal, I've had no trouble or problems with that hook up,, later,, DaveG
mine is installed (recessed) into the topside of the fairing where the warning stickers use to be, directley wired into the battery, i used one for an ATV, rubber cover top, no water can get in, if i dont have a key or the electrical system goes to #$%&, i can still use the outlet.
