Hi Richard, welcome to the forum. The process is outlined in the owners manual. I can't remember it off the top of my head but it somenting like

Hold Sel
Turn the key to "on"
Press Adj for either Solid, Blink or None
Press Sel to confirm above
Press Adj to select rpm for shift light
Press Sel to confirm above

If the right answer hasn't been posted by the time I get home I'll put it up here for you.

And make sure the motor kill switch
ON -OFF "button" is ON.

Do as Wax said ,but keep and eye on the RPM guage you will notice when pushing the buttons the RPM needle moves.

Also I believe per another thread you should have the stand up when changing the rev light. The owners manual got me through it.

I would never want to be looking at the gauge long enough to wait for the shift light to come on. That's just too dangerous. I seldom look at the gauge. I need to have my head up and looking for stuff when riding, not peering at a gauge. This kind of bike does not require perfection at specific rpms when shifting.

True enough. As I said elsewhere, beyond break-in I don't see much use for that light.

The only reason I use the Light is as an indication that I maybe going slightly over the national speed limit in the UK.

I have it set at 6,000 rpm and in sixth gear the light comes on at just over 70 mph. So when I see the light on, I always slow down to the legal speed limit - honestly

I never thought of that kitebuggydad. That's a nice use of the gauge. Now, I just may set mine up that way too.

Mine is at 6000 rpm ,which comes on in 6th gear at 120kph.
Speed limit is 110kph ,just lets you know its geting up in speed and to keep and eye out for the cops from here on up.

You don't have to put the stand up, just leave it out but make sure the bike is in NEUTRAL, not in gear.

You don't need to be looking at the light, it is bright enough that you can be looking straight ahead and see it in your periphery even in bright sunlight. I don't use mine but I have seen it come on several times at 11,000rpm.

Absolutely right, although the brightness is adjustable too. At its dimmest setting, it might not be so attention-getting. I set mine on brightest. Doesn't make much sense to me to enable a warning indicator like that and then turn down the brightness, though.

I'm upstairs and the owners manual is out in the garage but if I remember isn't the brightness setting only for the red gauge lights ??

Nope, once you're in the edit mode for the revs light, you cycle with the "sel" button between brightness, off/solid/flash setting, and revs level, and then change each setting in each mode with the "adj" button. That's from memory, but I remember it pretty clearly.

when you adjust the brightness it adjusts the brightness of the shift light AND the gauge lighting.
