Hello all a quick question, I bought my 2008 GSX650F with 2000 miles on it 2 weeks ago, After reading this forum i saw the recall and contacted the original owner about the recall and he didn't know about it. He gave me the name of the place he bought it, Bloomington Power Sports in Bloomington Indiana, I contacted them today and they advised that indeed it does need the work done and left a message for me to call them tomorrow to sit up a time to bring it in. The problem is they are 200 miles from me, Should i have to take it back there or can i take the bike anyplace that works on suzukis? The only thing local is a honda dealer but have a Suzuki dealer about 40 miles away that i can take it to? Thanks in advance.
Any Suzuki dealer will do the recall work. It doesn't matter where the bike was purchased. I did the same thing, i just called first for an appointment.

Yeah ,I've moved 100km from my dealer ,I just went to the local dealer near my new place. They had a list with the bikes ID numbers that needed a recall and mine was on it. Arranged a time ,droped it off ,got some lunch and all done...didn't sign any thing or ask for ID or any money. Doesn't matter who owns the bike or where you brought it or any thing ,they just want the bikes ID number and they will fix it...and that dealer charges Suzuki for the time.

Hey all...I just bought my bike a month or so ago; what was involved in the recall cause this is the first I've heard of it? I'm not to thrilled about the place I bought it from so I don't know if they'll tell me im outta luck since this was fee years ago or what.

It was for a regulator/rectifier thingo. Something about it not having enough adhesive causing it to overheat. My dealer told me that they had not yet come across one that had caused any problems. I think it's just a case of Suzuki covering their butts rather than something that is urgently important.
I dont think it matters how old the bike is, mine was completely out of warrenty and they replaced it for free.

Yes i was told that it was free no matter if you were the original owner or not and all suzuki dealers are obligated to do the work, Just call whatever dealer you want to take it to and set up an appt.

I took mine to my local dealer in a close suburb. When I bought the bike in December 2010, I took it to the dealer to changer over the warranty and ownership with Suzuki - charged me $110 for a 'safety check', then I still didn't receive a letter from Suzuki. I took it in 6 weeks ago to get the work sorted, and the fella tries to give me the run around, saying I probably don't need it. I asked him to check the VIN anyway, now I am here and all. What do you know, I need it. He tells me they will order the part in, and give me a call. 6 weeks later no call. Maybe they are making too much money?

As I said in the above post ..my local dealer with a "bad reputation" ,had a print out with all the bikes on it ,I guess they could down load it from suzukis website and Sydney city motorcycle couldn't even do that or get a list and have it in the draw ,only took less then a week for them to order the part. Call suzuki australia and complain that your riding around on a unsafe bike waiting for a letter that you know says ,--DON'T RIDE THE BIKE and take it to a dealer straight away for repair--...and your dealer is blowing you off and telling you to go away and come back another time IF you ever get the letter. They will fix the problem in minutes ,with a call to said dealer and order the part for you. I've delt with suzuki OZ with a dealer problem and fixed it in minutes.

It's not like I'm concerned - mine recently sat idle for about 6 weeks while I was busy working, and fired up on the first press of the starter... I'll probably sort it out before summer and my trip away.
