I found that when I grip the throttle, after a short period my hand moves toward the end. The outside meaty part of my hand wants to rest on the bar end. When I notice it, I put it back against the rubber end. But it always finds itself right back toward the end. I find I have more minute control of the throttle that way and feels better, but I was wondering... Is that a bad habit? Does anyone else do this?
I am just curious and thanks again,
John

Yes, I did the same thing and found the sollution. I replaced the grips. I have heated grips now, which have a higher end, so my hand will not rest on the barend anymore. It was my left hand only....

I found the bars pointed to much backward towards your and the meaty part on the hand as you say feels like its slipping off . So I replace the bars to a straight angle bar and the meaty part stays even across the grip and not half on half off

I have been practicing keeping my hand only on the grip for the past 10 miles in my complex. I am getting more proficient with the throttle and keeping it on the handle itself. Just takes time, practice and willpower Also my hands get sore, I guess because I have never used them that way for extended periods of time before.

Yeah you will get the hang of it ,your will be griping the bars to hard ,and over time you will just rest your hands on the bars.
Funny story.....
I guy on a local forum ,just started riding and said his hands where really really sore and bruised....he even took a picture and his hands where black and blue .' So after a few questions he said he did ride in the rain that day and was holding on tighter then normal ....some one said go wash your hands in good soap ,like you get grease off with . 20 minutes later he replies ,the bruising has good ,what a great trick .......no the guy with the trick said ....it was the dye from your new gloves, not brushing
He was abit

ROFLMAO,
That's a good one... I have gotton so much better and confident with takeoffs. I am smooth as a baby's bottom Still gonna keep practicing. I figure that my hands will get used to it, as I ride every night after work (midnight). I put 20 miles on her tonight and still have time for more. This apartment complex is great. I see more diverse terrain, turns and stop signs in a compressed area. It's the perfect place for practice.
Thanks for all of the responses, take care and safe riding,
John

What kind of heated grips did you get, if you mind me asking. Do they work well?
Thanks,
John

Never had this problem. My hands stays where it were when I started riding. Do you wear gloves while riding? Bare hands would probably cause this to happen as you sweat and then hand starts to move. With gloves my hand stays put.

No. I wear gloves. My hand would move to that position, not slide. I guess it was what my hand felt comfortable with. I am getting better at keeping them on the entire grip now.

While I do move my hands around on the grips, lots of times, my hands are half on and half off the grip at the end of the bars. I do that in order to fix the throttle at a desired speed. But I can do that too with my whole hand on the throttle. The edge on the grips does not bother my hands at all. I move my right hand around initially to prevent it from going numb. It still gets numb sometimes, but it does not last long. I don't have a death grip, and after about 45 minutes on the road my right hand is not numb, or even partly numb. I don't know what causes my hand to get numb. My friend said it's arthritis.
Anyway, I ride with my hands part way on and part way off the grips a lot, and it's no problem. And I can just as easily use my hands only on the grips. Moving my hands around works for me.

After I got REAL gloves (was using mechanic gloves) and some mileage under my belt, I have no problems at all. My whole hand stays on both handles and do not move The soreness went away as well, I guess my hands are used to it now. Thanks for all the responses.
Take care and ride safe!!

I've never had my hands shift to the ends but I might grip a bit differently than most. I tend to use my palm to control the throttle due to nerve damage from severely dislocating my thumb and almost tearing it off. I used to use a throttle boss on my v-rod and even locked the throttle on long trips. No such luck on the F.

Just my two cents....I don't think I have kept stock grips on any of my recent purchases. I have found that almost all the stock grips are too slim. A wider grip seems to help me with my hands, throttle grip, and throttle control.
For long trips I attach a cramp buster and it works like a charm. I was skeptical at first but it made all the difference for those long drones on the highway. Definitely kept the hands from cramping.
