I needed to get into my brake wiring to install my Hyper-Lites flashing brake lights, so I took some photos of the rear tail plastic removal as I did it. I did a search and found nothing on the subject using various word combination's in the search, hopefully I didn't waste my time with info that's posted elsewhere?

(1) Remove the seat

(2) Remove both Frame Covers.

Once the allen fastener is removed, 2 push/pull hook and grommet fasteners hold the forward edge of the Frame Covers on.

(3) Remove the Grab Handle.

(4) Get your finger under the Seat Release Cable and pop it up, rotate the cable around to the slot in the clevis and remove it.
Image

(5) Push the center of the 4 Push Fasteners in (I use a 3mm allen wrench) Then hook the underside of the fastener with your fingernail or something narrow to remove them. Detailed info on this type of fastener is located at the bottom of post.

(6) Grasp the Rear Frame Cover with both hands, one on each side of the cover at the farthest point from the Tail Light and gently pull the two pieces slightly outward as you push the cover towards the back of the bike. Don't get too carried away because the Tail Light is still wired to the Electrical Harness. Maybe have a helper release the Tail Light Connection while you hold and keep the cover from getting scratched?

For Clairity...the hook to release the electrical connection is on the on the Tail Light side

Installation is in the reverse order. But THE MOST IMPORTANT part of the installation is to make sure you have the SEAT RELEASE CABLE HOOKED BACK UP BEFORE YOU EVEN TOUCH THE SEAT!!

Thanks! :D
I might be removing the gas tank later on this weekend, do we need a guide on that? It's raining here in Seattle (Duh), so I have plenty of garage time on my hands and a digital camera.

...And clear pictures, along with strait forward info.

And you're freaking tools. All I have yet is a ratchet set and a cross-thread.

The GSXF looks a bit special when naked.

Thanx, but laying on the ground, croutching down or bending over the bike and many other things are getting harder every day, getting my socks on in the morning kills me..I swear, getting old sucks :?

Hi GSXFun, thanks so much for taking the time and trouble to post this information. A seriously good job well done. There is just so much advice and information available on the forum, amazing. While on the issue of lifts I was wondering about the safety of using a paddock stand to lift the front wheel while the bike is on the main stand. I like to keep my bikes clean and have made up a stand, just the right hight, I then push down on the back lifting the front and the wife slides the stand under the forks. Now I can clean both wheels. The problem is when there is nobody else around my system doesn't work. So I was wondering will a paddock stand enable me to lift the front without pulling the bike forward and off the main stand. I also thought about getting one of those little roller plates and place it behind the front wheel then perhaps when I pull the bike onto the main stand the rollers will be under the front wheel and I can turn ithe wheel. Kind regards from Durban RSA.

As an old fart myself, I'd like to look into procuring such a lift. Where do you recommend I shop?

I think it would be stable enough, you can always use MC Tie Downs with it for more stability.

Damn, my friend. The more pics you show of that lift the more I want one. Please help advise how to procure.
