Hey all.
I took my GSX out for a ride last night for the first time this winter just to turn the engine over, and I noticed that one of the red lights that illuminate the instrument cluster has died. Has anyone had any experience of replacing the bulbs/LEDs that are inside? Just want to check this is possible before I completely destroy it

i have had the "UNIT" out to do windscreen change, and some painting of the case bezel and dash.
Does look like it can be opened, yet might be the UNIT may be sealed , not sure where ODO reading is stored. IF ODO reading in ECU memory, then i think u can open.
The LEDS inside, pretty sure are thru hole device, soldered in place. Careful on any work u do, if u work on unit , use ESD ground strap when printed circuit board is exposed.

Thanks for this. I'll do a little bit of an investigation during the week, and I'll post with anything I find. Plus I guess it would make a decent tutorial topic.

Hmmm. It's a peculiar issue. It's an intermittent fault. When I cold start the bike, the whole display lights up properly, but when I warm start it later on, the LED at the bottom of the rev counter goes out. It appears to be a more complicated electronics problem.

Decided to take mine apart. Very easily done. And yes! it has to be the solder. As all the led lights are soldered to a small electronics board behind the tach. I guess take it apart and locate the led thats not working and either reheat the existing solder to get it reflow or add new solder. hope that helps.

That's great help thank you. I'll try and get round to it this weekend. Nico (that's its name) is having its service and MOT done today so won't get the chance to do it until then. I'll keep you updated
