Just about the first thing I replace on any new bike (or new to me) is the horn. My personal preference is for a PIAA Standard Sports Horn:

However --- this one just came to my attention and may just be the attention grabber I crave:

The first look lighter in weight than the second. 115db v 100db, not much difference. Personally I prefer the looks of the Piaa, but either would be good.

You could always get a "General Lee" Dukes of Hazzard horn...

After my ride home today I have decided to buy a louder horn. After having some idiot in a RX-8 change lanes and cut me off, while I am laying on the horn the entire time, he never saw or heard me. So I purchased the PIAA on Amazon for 50.95, $56.26 with shipping and it will be here by the beginning of next week. Once I get it and install it I will do a short review here.

I'll tell you right now --- it is the best $50 you will ever spend for your bike!

big difference between 100db and 115 db. every 3 db is twice as loud.

have you looked at the Stebel from twisted throttle? I have one. It works great.

100db to 115db is a HUGE difference in loudness I'm sorry (that's if their ratings are accurate).

Got the PIAA Slimline Horn in the mail today. First thing I notice is the box says 112db not 115 as I remember on the Amazon site. Other than that looks like it will be a very simple install. I will let you know how it sounds when I get it on.

After living in So. Cal, and Italy for awhile where using the horn was quite common, I've found that here in Pittsburgh PA using the horn is about the same as flipping someone off. Per the MSF rider's course I'd prefer to concentrate on avoiding the accident first, then if needed use the horn hoping the other driver can put down their cell phone long enough to notice....

Where in Pittsburgh? I grew up in the South Hills (Mt. Lebo).
